Domain Name Research: Smarter Ways to Find Available Website Names

One of the most underestimated parts of launching a project is choosing a domain name.

I used to spend far too much time brainstorming ideas, only to discover that most of the good ones had already been registered. That often led to settling for names that weren't as memorable or brandable as I'd hoped.

What improved my workflow wasn't finding a "perfect" domain immediately—it was changing how I approached the process. Instead of checking one idea at a time, I started generating multiple variations around a core concept and evaluating them based on clarity, memorability, and availability.

That small change dramatically reduced the time I spent naming projects and led to better choices overall.

I'm curious—how do you approach domain naming?

Do you start with keywords?
Invent a brandable word?
Use AI or brainstorming tools?
Or is it still the most frustrating part of launching?

I'd love to hear the strategies that have worked for other founders.

I hear you—domain hunting is brutal. I've had luck using a combination of instantdomainsearch and brainstorming with a thesaurus for synonyms. How does SerpSpur handle .io or other TLDs? Those can be lifesavers when .com is gone.

I feel your pain on domain hunting. I've found that brainstorming with a thesaurus for related terms can also spark ideas that aren't already taken. Have you tried combining that approach with the tool?

Domain naming is such a pain—I've been there. Does the tool also check for social handle availability, or is it purely domain-focused?

Naming is brutal. I've definitely settled for a 'good enough' domain before and regretted it. Does the tool also check for social handle availability, or just domains?
