On the contrary, buy the damn domain. Most definitely if it's $15 or under. Unless you're wasting hundreds of dollars a year on this, don't question that decision. If for nothing else do it for the peace of mind of being able to count on that namespace being secure for a year at least.

Unless you're wasting hundreds of dollars a year on this

You quickly get there once you constantly have "ideas" ๐Ÿ˜…

    2. 1

      Yeah, I tend to agree.

I'm often buying domain names for ideas I have, and rarely do they turn into anything. However, I can always go back and review the domains I own, and any I no longer want I can sell.

I sold a domain for $2k that I bought for $10, which has essentially paid for my domain name buying habit ๐Ÿ˜†

My advice is, don't bother buying it unless it's a brandable name or a really valuable keyword. I've also stopped buying .co, .app or .io and try to only buy if I can get the .com

.com domains are still king: https://twitter.com/levelsio/status/1488166336878419975

Yeah the .com ones are not available. Not being used either, but I'm def not about to pay 2k+ for them.

        .com domains are still king

True that. Also, on some registrars, you can get a name for $7, with coupons even for less.

For my last side projects, I delayed buying the domains until the development was mostly done. And guess what? Nobody bought my amazing domains meanwhile!

I dunno, losing a namespace before was disappointing. If you have a steady income, why not?

For me at least, a domain is cheap, buy them, list them for sale if you're interested in offers, sell if its an attractive offer.

In the past I've always started with the domain, then the project, then the launch. But sometimes the project or the launch never happened. I've surely spend hundreds of euro's on unneeded domains, which actually isn't a problem.

Cancelling all those domains again, that's the problem.

These companies make it very difficult sometimes to properly dispose of all unneeded domains and sometimes hosting. It takes mind space. Horrible!

My current project, which actually is live, still runs on a free Wordpress site. It's good enough for now, it's not about the site anyways. I can always setup a proper domain later.

A good domain is like a jewel. You have to keep your precious safe!! (at least until you get tired of that idea) :D

      Haha, indeed

Should I SELL the domains? ๐Ÿฆนโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I think it's a very good idea to buy a domain. I will go and buy a couple of dozens of them, now.

I started my own hosting reseller to get wholesale prices on domains, both for myself and friends / family. So I'd say buy domains if you can afford it.

I bought a .dev domain prematurely for $360/yr. However, I was able to a find a much better and shorter matching .app and .cloud domain for like $20/yr.

I am going to resell the .dev for a nice 3X profit :)

  12. 2

I bought so many domains without ever starting to work on something hahaha, though I manage to find domains that are cheap to buy so I think it's okay :D

  13. 2

The yearly prices are low, so I reckon it's a good investment if you come up with a name. Names are hard.

But yes, finish that project instead of starting new ones all the time ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ
