Let's take a look at the upcoming cage fight of Tech Billionaires.

On one side, we have Zuck and his company with a history full of privacy abuses, who built its forture by promising everyone to join their network, convincing SMB owners to drop their websites and just post on their social network, and later charging for the privilege of reaching an ever-shrinking slice of its user base.

On the other, we have Crazy Rocket Man who took a company who was slowly dying and is doing an amazing job at speeding up its demise.

Do we really need to take sides on this?

What if I told you there is way that we can bet for them both to lose? What if I told you that there is a way to have a social media presence where your communication with your customers feels more organic? Where you don't need to worry about having your brand taken away from you? Where you can participate in the "global town square" without having to pay rent to some feudal lord?

That place is the Fediverse and all of the ActivityPub-powered applications that make it. Mastodon might be the most famous representative of it, but your Fediverse presence can be as simple as hosting your own Wordpress blog with the AP plugin (https://wordpress.com/plugins/activitypub). As long as you own your domain, your content will be available to the growing number of people joining it. There will be no algorithm to game or pay-to-play shenanigans, just you, your work and your audience.

Yes, the UX still has its quirks, and content discovery is difficult. But guess what? These things can be fixed. There are people in the Fediverse working right now on it to make global search easier and more relevant. There are more and more companies bringing solutions to the needs of the users. Can we say the same about Facebook/Twitter?
