For those of you who dont know, Pamfax is an online fax service, they give you an US-based fax number to send and receive. Who would want or need a fax in 2021? The IRS apparently. I needed to send them a fax in order to get the EIN for my LLC, the thing is I needed to provide also a fax number. Searching online I found that Pamfax offered the cheapest (I know, I know) service. 17 USD/3 months. I thought that would be enough to do the EIN thing , since the IRS take around 8 weeks to answer.
So I signed up, looked around the site, looked legit and everything was OK. A day later I paid for the 3 month service. That's when my problems began:
After paying I was automatically logged out from my account. I was using it no problem before. The password was not longer accepted, the reset email link was not working, so I had to open a ticket. The automatic email I received told me to log in to my account (:???) to check the status of my ticket.
After more than 1 week, I received this pearl:
" There are some security issues with your account. We need to verify the
account holder in order to unlock your account again.
Please send us a scanned photo ID of the account holder and also a Letter of
authority (LOA). It is required that the entered account information are
also shown on the proof.
We will then enable your PamFax account immediately."
Sure buddy, I will send all of that to a sketchy company.
So I answered:
"Sorry, I wont send you my ID for such a basic service. Either
reimburse me or I will ask my credit card company to charge back."
2 weeks and no reimburse , no answer and my bank wont charge back. Splendid.
So there you go kids, dont ever ever use that nasty company.
Do you know a similar service that can be trusted? I really need to move forward with this but I feel burned out and stupid for being scammed.
