Enough is said on the internet and by email providers themselves.
π Double opt-in prevents spam which improves email delivery and reduces costs.
π Single opt-in reduces subscriber friction which lets you grow your base faster.
Which one are you actually using, and why?
Definitely double opt-in. I run single for a while to reduce friction and ended up with a bunch subscribers (fake, spam, wrong addresses I guess) that don't engage with the newsletter at all. Those are going to be cleared after a while, so why chase them? If people can't get past a double opt-in, are they really interested in your content?
Thank you @esquimal for your response!
I went through the same journey. Tried to grow fast with singe opt-in and got to the same place - lot of fake, and wrongly typed emails.
Then I switched to double opt-in, and I saw how real people that wanted to subscribe, didn't end up confirming their email address.
Why? They simply forgot. It went to spam, went into the promotions tab.
I built http://outoflimbo.com to address that pain point, would love your feedback!
