Hey peeps,
It's been far too long since I made a post here. I took a fulltime job again in February and it has been nonstop ever since. I miss this scene so badly!
I want to get back in to the swing of things and I am dusting off a side project that I spent the most time + money on. https://haystack.news.
I previously invisioned the project as an entire platform for future news but I now realise the scope of that is possibly too much. I also think the barriers to understanding and also setting up pricing plans and memberships etc etc is just too time intensive to set up. So I have re-evaluated the plan and looking to go down the paid newsletter road using https://substack.com
I am thinking to start off very small with a weekly email of the biggest news stories for the following 7 days. Perhaps 10-20 articles.
My first barrier is trying to think in which industry to target this to. Keep it generic as something like "World news" or go more niche and target "Startup news" or a personal favourite of mine "eSports".
Looking forward to getting some advice on this!
I personally would not pay for a newsletter. There is already so much info and stuff already out there for free on the web. The only way I would do it is if I found someone's free content that I really loved and just couldn't get enough of. If they then had more content I would maybe willing to pay for it.
But I am just one data point.
No, I wouldn't pay for it - I get enough crap in my mailbox as it is.
Maybe find advertisers instead ?
Thanks for all your input.
A great example of a paid newsletter that I believe is doing really well is https://meetglimpse.com/
Perhaps I do not need to make it free and monetise it another way. It will be quite time consuming to create this newsletter every week though.

Thanks for the advice.
Your newsletter looks great. Is there a particular reason why you are not making it a paid newsletter?
