Go check him out! I SWEAR YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!
Trowing flowers but he deserves it.
From hosting podcast to writing books. He is the real deal and have been a mentor fore me since day one.
Yeah, his videos are good.
I signed up for one mastermind group. But this felt like a scam to be honest. There were two video classes which had interesting topics like "How to win your first customers" or "How Customer Interviews work". But those "classes" were just a Call between one MicroConf Community Member and a Mastermind Moderator who was very bad prepared and also didn't really have Moderation skills.
So basically, you pay 250 Dollar for getting thrown in a slack group with three other people. It didn't feel good and some other people I talked to felt the same way.
TLDR: Videos recommended! Masterminds didn't work out for me.
So glad to see your view. In my post today, I shared cash strategy to play the startup game and one of the side point is not to spend money on other people's "success" blueprint or mastermind or playbook. The higher sales these people generate, the more the same people using the same strategy to sell the same thing. It's not the startup ecosystem we want to build and see. Just my POV.
I see you point and everybody should put his own secret ingredient but there are things that works and some that don't. A guy like him help you learn those things as fast as possible.
Learning and testing fast from free resources is all good.
Good to know! Thank you for sharing your experience with me. Speaking of the devil, I'm looking to form a masterminds group myself with member who has or in the process to have a product with SaaS business model. Would you be interested?
Hey Olivier, thanks for the invite.
My experience is that a mastermind group only makes sense, if you have people who are working on a concrete idea. In best case, they already have a product live.
Since I'm in pre-idea mode/ just playing around with some stuff, I guess I could not be the best sparring partner for this.
It makes sense, it is in fact a great criteria. If you ever build a product, you can find me here or on Linkedin -https://www.linkedin.com/in/olivier-cote-orp/
Hi Olivier, thanks for this tip, I recently saw his name in this 30 min talk "Predictable Mistakes of the Developer-Turned-Founder" by Ben Orenstein, will definitely check him out now!
Regarding that group - I was also looking to team up with some people in a similar way. Having a group with fellow builders who're in a similar stage in their process to grow together, do some accountability work together etc.
Do you already have a concrete plan in mind for such a group?
I created this IH post last week but seems like it didn't hit the spot yet ;)
Yes! I have made a couple of interviews and found one suitable fit at the moment. I have 2 planned for this week and I was looking to be 4-5 max. Would you be interested to have a chat to see if we are a good fit? If so, here's a link to my calendly : https://calendly.com/widgbrew/30min :)
Always, let's talk!
Rob is awesome! I listen to his podcast almost every day (going through older episodes) and really enjoy his insights and personality! I really liked his book Start Small, Stay Small - some of the tools and resources he recommends in it are outdated by now, but I think the advice is still very useful for someone just getting started.
If you liked "Start small, Stay small", you will love his new book "The SaaS Playbook"! Feels like a cheat code.
It's next on my reading list 🙂
Rob is a beast. I have consumed an entirely unhealthy amount of MicroConf videos, and I'm reading through The SaaS Playbook right now.
The Saas Playbook feels like a cheat code! It's a good read!
Rob is my biggest inspiration for making my YouTube channel. I want to be as helpful to indie makers as he is.
Super interesting, where can I find your youtube channel?
Welcome https://www.youtube.com/@alexanderisora
For sure. i follow him on Youtube. Also Simon Hoiberg. Very recommended
Simon is awesome, too! Cool to see someone else mention him.
I'll look into it! Followed you, i need more people around me who knows Rob.
Been listening to Rob for a few years now, dude knows it all when it comes to SaaS.
Could not agree more!
This man is literally my reference book for SAAS.
I actually finished his earliest book "Start Small, Stay Small" a few weeks ago and am currently working on "The SAAS Playbook" of his right now.
He has changed my entire outlook on what it takes to succeed in this space.
Currently trying to get a landing page together to build an email list for an idea I want to validate as I type this.
Actually, funny enough I came online to indiehackers today to look around for info on a good way to work on an email news letter (assuming I can get any signups). Literally taking a page out of his book.
Rob is really the one who has helped me shift my mindset to working this way. I can't say that it works yet because I'm in early stage's. But I can say that I've been on a few indie venture's in a team on project's that failed and, looking back over the path we took, things he's pointed out lead to the failure's.
Anyway, sorta let my mind wander there, but if you like his podcast check out his books too! They really do have ACTUALLY useful information in them. Especially if you're a developer with little marketing experience or even no idea to start with.
I definitely recommend starting with "Start Small, Stay Small". If you haven't gotten an idea yet. It's really worth it!
For me, Rob and Courtland are really the face of the indie developer's dream right now.
Thanks a lot for the book recommendations!!
Yep, also one of those 90% ;) So thanks again, actually these very days i was looking for resources to learn more on the distribution/marketing front
I could not agree more, I went through "the Saas Playbook" in 2 days and keep referring to it! I feel like this book is a cheat code and gives me an upper hand against other.
I feel the exact same way about Rob and currently on the same exact stage. Growing my network and landing page for validation.
If you like IndieHackers, you should checkout Product Hunt. It looks great to launch products. I can wait for my first launch!
I will definitely check out Start small, stay small.
Definitely agree, great advice on building a startup and bootstrapping. Loads of good stuff on YouTube and he has just published his "SaaS Playbook" book
That's for sure but I found his podcast is even more valuable. If your a podcast type of person, I highly recommend! Any way, definitely following you, I definitely need more people who listen to Rob in my life! 🙏
He's a legend!
Couldn't agree more! Gave you a follow, I definitely want someone who listen to Rob in my network ✌️
Likewise! Followed back! 😊
Yeah, he is good.
I follow his videos on YouTube
If you like podcast, you should definitely check him out at startup for the rest of us!
