Hey. I'm a software engineer that's been developing side projects for a few years.
Currently, my creativity for side project ideas has been very low. I'm struggling to find problems. I think this is likely related to my lack of exposure to non-work related problems. Prior to this rut of creativity, I found myself spawning ideas from media. But, since I've been fasting from socials, not watching TV and consuming a small amount of YT/Podcasts/Audiobooks, I have really struggled to find new problems.
I find myself getting frustrated at myself, because I'm so eager to build. I put hands on keyboard with no sense of direction of what to build. But, I just love the process of spinning up a new project and coding.
If anyone else has like 15 started repos on their machine & 10 domains just sitting there, you're not alone.
I'm sharing this message to see if anyone else shares this rut. I am going to challenge myself over the next 5 days to find, plan out, and sketch 5 new app ideas. They can be as big or as small as I want.
The goal, break out of my creative "yips". Let's make it happen!
Thanks for reading, let me know if you have shared a similar experience or thought this was interesting.
You should probably look at Micro SaaS Ideas
Instead of randomly picking projects, do more research with the available data and see what best works for you.
Already a subscriber there :)
Thankyou!!
What are you interested in? What problems do you have? What are your hobbies?
One addition—talk to a potential user for each app idea.
That’s great! Five ideas over the course of a week are good. You’re probably going to work on it for a while, so it’s worth thinking about.
I could probably code for the next 10 years and still not finish half of my ideas 😂 choose something that you are both interested in and has business potential
