Anyone else on the early morning grind? How do you handle the tiredness? I find it gives me the best time to focus and get on with stuff for my latest side project ServerAuth before the day job starts, but I can't seem to get to bed early enough to compensate.
Doing this also allows me to spend more time in the evening with my partner after my day job but I've never been an "early to bed" kind person so I've been struggling with that. Do you find it's something that just takes discipline to say "it's 10pm, time for bed"?
Also apart from setting goals for the next morning, trying switching off electronically an hour before bed, etc.. I'm not sure what else to try and incorporate in my evening routine to help with that discipline of "time for bed".
What are all the other early risers doing the night before?
Lovely @mikebarlow to bring up this subject!
Definitely your solutions are helping.
I think & do pretty much same plus:
PS. "How do you handle the tiredness? " - what exactly do you mean?
For years, I would work late into the night and go to sleep thinking about what I was going to be working on the next day.
It was too easy to get caught in the moving train of development that was only temporarily interrupted by sleep before continuing on the same track day after day.
I eventually learned that it was better, at least for me, to treat each day separately rather than as a continuation of the previous day.
By that I mean when I stop working for the night, no matter what time that is, I stop thinking about what I am working on completely.
When I wake up, I then decide what I am going to do or work on that day, which may not be what I worked on yesterday or may not be what I thought yesterday I would work on today. Most of the time it is the same project of course, but just knowing that I can opt-out to work on or do something else is a great feeling.
What I found is that I start the day happier and more refreshed knowing I am not obligated to do anything specific so I can choose what I want to do and I can change my mind if I am not feeling it.
That’s a fantastic idea. I think I always get caught up in making sure it’s planned so I don’t have to think about during the night but maybe planning it makes me then think about what I have planned to do rather than switching off totally!
