Crowdfunding professionals ( for example, anime studios )

I know it's an idea that's around for years. I'm curious why it isn't a thing yet. Similar to Kickstarter, there should be a website where people can crowdfund more 'professional' creators such as studios to make the next season of their favorite anime, for example.

Thoughts on how such a venture would work out?
