Ebooks: How long should they be?

Hey Katha. How many subscribers / readers do you have?

1. If not many I'd maybe make the book free. And use it as a magnet to build followers ... Could promote on Product Hunt, Facebook ads etc ... If you're readership is already fairly big then go paid.

2. The problem with eBooks is that,"People are anchored to what they're used to paying on Amazon." You can't just sell an e-book for $70+. The format commands the price. No matter what the content is. And it speaks nothing to the value of the content or the effort that was put into creating it.

3. So you're realistically stuck < $20. Adam and Steve Schoger ran into this very problem with their design course. If they wrote an eBook they were capped at $20 price point. So instead, they set up their own website, added in video tutorials, an icon pack, color palettes, font recommendations, a component library. And then the context changed. They were no longer selling an Amazon e-book, they were selling an exhaustive design package. And they could charge whatever they like.

So in short my advice would be:

1. If you want to make money and you don't have a big following do a free eBook (to grow)
2. If you want to make money and you do have a big following don't sell an eBook sell some kind of package for a higher price point.
3. If you aren't that into maximising profits and just want to have fun do a short eBook for $15

Oh, and in terms of length. Keep it short. And make every page / word count. Reduce 200 pages of average quality into 50 pages of genius. That way everyone wins!

i have a site in the women's health space (around 300 UV a day), that i monetize with amazon affiliate right now. however i would rather not be so dependent on amazon and am exploring adding a virtual product. i really like the idea of bundles though and will definitely look into it! love the case study too!
