Email marketing? Mmm. SMS Marketing? Way to go! ✅✅ Here's why

Hello Indie Hackers, let's talk email vs SMS (kinda), straight into it!

Email marketing is just way too saturated and will continue to be so. Email scrapers, cold reach outs, unlimited email finders, senders, campaings, lowered costs of email marketing and not to mention, that site you visited yesterday (and nearly every other site) with that pop-up asking you to signup for their newsletter is sending a weekly email to their list.

Just named a few!

Email is just easy and because of that everybody is doing it from starters, startups to big corporations. As it's really easy, it opens room for malicious bots/humans, visit your spam folder to you know what I'm talking about. Most people just hate emails altogether, but still use it as they don't have any other choice. Email channels have been used for formal communications and haven't got any alternatives over the years, it is also the main reason you may be checking it every morning.

Seeing the need for emails but also finding the toxicity of emails, companies such as Boomerang have worked on pause/stop features to give us a break from emails. Works only 50%.

Solutions?

If you're a consumer you can stay away from email-problems by simply reporting spam/blocking/not subscribing. But for marketers, getting in spam folder is the last thing you want when you're not actually spamming. Let's combat this -- With SMS marketing!

SMS marketing kept most of us out because of its complexity in use and the high costs associated with it. Mobile numbers are also not easier to find when compared to emails, this kept the spammers out and only a few players had their hands these channels.

We looked into this. We worked on making SMS marketing easier, more accessible, and affordable by reducing the per-message costs. And we're finally open for early users.

Roast me, the SMS part comes out really sale-sy but we don't have anything to sell yet :)

I've heard SMS gets like 90% open rate, but as a customer, if someone was putting ads in my text message inbox, that's crazy intrusive and I'd block that so fast. And I do.

Curious though, how do you prevent customers from blocking you?

    1. 1

Customers can subscribe to your SMS and still block you, there's just no way to prevent that but these voluntary or involuntary (they forgot they subscribed) blocks can be reduced.

Sometimes, you get a cold email but when you read it you'll be really glad this person reached out to you. There's just so much value that you wanna speak to this person or even get on a call. So instead of asking how to prevent, you should look at your inbox.

Re-read the last ones you opened, the same goes to SMS read the SMSes you found interesting. Include those interesting elements in your next campaign. I believe this will be way more effective than me telling how to prevent blocks.
