Hey Indie Hackers! I'm Sathish, a data engineer turned indie hacker. Today, I want to share my journey about launching PMHNP Hiring, a job board specifically for the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner community. In just one week, we've managed to list 8,295 jobs on our platform. It's been a whirlwind of emotions, from the excitement of seeing our live site to the anxiety about securing our first paying employer.
Day 1 of our Builder Day marked the beginning of this adventure. Using vibe coding with tools like Cursor and Claude AI, I was able to streamline the development process, which was crucial given our tight timeline. The initial response from job seekers has been positive, but the real challenge lies in converting this traction into revenue.
One of the key learnings from this week has been the importance of niche targeting. By focusing specifically on PMHNP roles, we've filled a gap that many larger job boards overlook. However, niche targeting also means our potential employer pool is smaller, which makes the task of convincing employers to post jobs even more critical.
I'm trying different outreach strategies, from targeted ads to direct employer engagement, but it's still a work in progress. As many of you know, the first paying customer is often the hardest to land.
In terms of metrics, while we've had a promising number of job seekers visiting the platform, the number of job postings from employers hasn't yet met expectations. This is a struggle I'm sure many of you can relate to.
I'm curious to hear from the community: What strategies have you used to successfully acquire your first paying customers? Any tips or lessons learned would be immensely appreciated!
