EmojiClue πŸ€” Month 1 Results πŸ“Š

Hi IH! I'm sharing metrics and growth strategies from my first month as an indie hacker.

My product is a Wordle-inspired game where users sound out emojis to guess the answer. For example, Clue: πŸ—½πŸ”‘πŸŸπŸ“† Answer: "Frea-ky Fri-day". You can play at https://EmojiClue.com

Top Levers for Growth

  • Reddit: If you can find a subreddit that overlaps with your target customer, this can be a great channel to spread the word about your product. Users are fanatical and will take a deep interest in your product + offer you feature suggestions...and critiques :)

  • LinkedIn: I've made 3 posts to LinkedIn, and the impressions for each has ranged from 3-5k. My goal is to get EmojiClue shared in corporate Slack channels, which could 10x the reach of these posts.

  • Facebook: Just for fun, I ran a Facebook ad that has an 8% click-thru rate. I've never done ads before but this is higher than expected. I'm not sure if these will be long-lasting users.

  • Twitter: I've explored Twitter by 'liking' Wordle scores and making some new friends in the Wordle superfan community. This has gained several 'earned' posts of EmojiClue, with view counts for each averaging in the low double-digits. While not a needle-mover, all it would take is 1 tweet from a highly followed account to create step-function growth :)

Happy to continue sharing the success/failure of my growth strategies if it's of interest. I'd also love to hear any product or marketing strategy ideas you think I should try next!
