Engineering as marketing for non-technical founders?

I love engineering as marketing, i've always admired Hubspot and Veed for putting out small, free tools that their users are going to find interesting.

I feel like it's an awesome top-of-funnel tool, and it's super beneficial for your SEO since people are actually spending time on your website, instead of just bouncing around different articles.

With that in mind, i set out to do this for Plainly. I had one problem though.

I'm not a developer, and in order to pull this off it seems like you have to be a dev. I really wanted to do this though, so i set out to find a solution.

Since I'm a huge no-code fan, i tried finding a tool that's going to allow me to build basically a Web App without any code. I knew i can build something primitive in Airtable, Typeform or Notion but i wanted it to look legit and have functionalities that these tools don't have.

I heard about Bubble, but never actually used it. I did a bit of research on the tool, signed up for a trial and found out that it's actually perfect. That's it - there's my solution.

I was so freaking relieved because i thought it was not possible.

I had a list of tools that i want to build, so three weeks ago i started working on the first. It's an animated chart generator, that allows you to pick a chart, input data, and get an animated video chart.

I was doing a lot of chart animations when i was working as a motion designer, and also i always created custom charts whenever i created presentations - so i thought i'd save myself some time by building this tool. I knew other people will appreciate it too.

It's build using:

  1. Bubble - as a web app builder
  2. Integromat - for webhooks and integrations with email sender
  3. Postmark - as an email sender
  4. Plainly - as the video generator

I'd love to get your feedback on it, it's still v0.1 so it has room for improvement. Feel free to message me with any bugs or things to add.

I'm really amazed by how powerful Bubble is. They built a beast of a tool. So, I'm super pumped about the fact that i can do engineering-as-marketing without actually being an engineer!

Have you guys used Bubble for similar things?
