Even if people already know the plot, they appreciate the way you tell the story

I was scared of doing technical writing, because I felt like everyone else already knew everything I had to say.

If if this was true (it isn't), it doesn't matter. Don't let that stop you from writing and sharing everything you know.

Just because someone already knows something, doesn't mean they won't appreciate your unique way of communicating and presenting it. It doesn't mean they won't appreciate your voice.

This was the advice given to me by a mentor:

Even if people already know the plot, they appreciate the way you tell the story.

This was proven to me today, as I launched a major blog post that I worked hard on. Link

I got my first subscriber to my blog mailing list, and they responded to my CTA with why they signed up.

Here was my welcome email:

Thanks for signing up. It's great to have you!

If you wouldn't mind, could you reply to this email with a quick message
about what made you sign up? I'd love to hear what type of content makes
you excited.

And here was their response:

Hey Mark!
I'm kernel engineer, and, even if I already know the topic that you are
discussing, I found that you write in a very pleasure way. I have a blog
also, so reading blogs is an way to improve my (non-native) writing.

They were more of an expert than me, but they still enjoyed how I presented the information.

Takeaway: Don't be scared that everyone already knows everything you know. They don't. And even if they did, they still might love your style of telling the story.
