I wss thinking about different ways to get traffic to my screencasts (topic: dissecting a profitable web app) and PR is probably the tactic furthest away from anything I've tried. Perhaps it's an underutilized approach.
Does anyone know examples of (or have experiences with) this strategy?
There are some lovely examples of creative marketing tactics on: https://marketingexamples.com/ He writes up the examples really clearly and succinctly and they feel very do-able because they are often smaller companies doing creative things to get noticed. Also the IH podcast #169 was with a PR guy who was giving some good advice on how to find out what kind of content people are looking for that can generate PR naturally.
Randomly just listened to that same podcast on my morning jog. Excellent recommendation.
How about do what works for others? like youtube for marketing and patreon for income?...
I mean it's a working business module for video content...
and/or use the class/teaching platforms...
another module is using short clips/extract on youtube and linking back for full content
like inventing a new business module and/or marketing system needs to have a really good reason for IMHO.... I mean there are already marketing systems in place you can use with existing platforms...
YouTube already works well enough (and I think it could be much better if I renew my Ahefs subscription and pay attention to SEO). I'm defo gonna continue on that front. Also wondering though if there are specific types of publicity stunts that could potentially garner attention at another order of magnitude.
publicity stunts kinda work how jokes work? a combination of attention grab, uniqueness and surprise. Than for the surprise? there are things which are more culture specific like embarrassment, things that are taboo, or just not done...
look at popularity based sites, what gets to the top, but you have to redo the novelty...
