A few years ago, I saw a video of Barbara Corcoran from Shark Tank talking about one of the keys to her success. She said that she was an expander, meaning she was focused on big ideas and the future, and that she needed a container. Someone who would remind her about terrestrial and present concerns, to empower her bigger ideas.
"There are only two kinds of people at work; expanders and containers. The expanders take risks, make money and like to spend it. The containers like control, systems and saving money. You need both if you want to build a big business." - Barbara Corcoran
I need a container.
I am a 35-year old woman, living in Los Angeles, working as a software engineer. In the past, I've worked as a growth hacker, product manager, UI/UX designer, social media expert, analyst, blogger, and a lot more. I am a jack of all trades. I have all of the skills needed to run a business by myself. And I've tried. But I need someone to run the business.
I have ADHD which I've gotten really good at harnessing for productivity. It's awesome when I get into a groove and spend 18 hours knocking out some big feature or designing a few new designs for my clothing line. But it's less great when I can't make myself focus on learning how to run a business, or responding to support emails when they come up.
I have two clothing lines already, one on Shopify that has been successful in the past (but I'm not good at doing the day-to-day things for to make it successful) and one on Etsy. I have hundreds of ideas for ecommerce sites, web applications, mobile games, and other inventions. I've also cofounded a startup in the past, with cofounders from Disney and Microsoft.
After trying some other things, I've decided that what I really need is to find a partner. Someone I can trust to keep things going day-to-day, and who can help keep me centered and focused on the important things.
Are you someone who is passionate about entrepreneurship but don't have an idea or vision of what to build? Do excel spreadsheets make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? Does your office look like Marie Kondo's wet dream? You might just qualify as a container.
I'd prefer a woman because several of my ideas are feminist or for women, but I'll consider everybody. Local to Southern California would be a bonus but not necessary, as I'm used to working remotely.
People with existing skills or experience are great, but if you're passionate and this sounds amazing to you, please don't hesitate to reach out. I am open to building up the right person with mentorship and training.
