Expat Community Building Is Infrastructure, Not a Lifestyle Extra

Most advice treats community as the soft side of moving abroad — join the group, find your tribe. This post argues it's structural: a community built entirely around one location is the last anchor standing after everything else has been made portable. Breaks down what actually makes community infrastructure portable, and the three-contact minimum that prevents a new location from being a blank slate.

It's interesting how often portability gets discussed in terms of work, money, or location.

The argument here seems to be that portability eventually runs into a different constraint.

    Not whether you can move.

Whether enough of your life moves with you when you do.
