Experienced product developer looking for marketing/sales partner

My name is Chris and I have over a decade of experience building successful products during my day-job and unsuccessful side projects. My new 4 year goal is to achieve my dream of having a bootstrapped side-business which earns enough to cover most of my yearly expenses.

I'm hoping to find someone who has similar motivation and the skills needed to grow products (marketing, sales, etc) which I lack. I have no hesitation about sharing 50/50 (with some sort of vesting), even on projects I've already spent hundreds of hours working on. I know that this is a long endeavor, and I'd want us both to be equally motivated to make it succeed.

Here are some of my (mostly failed, but some mediocre successes) side projects over the past decade:

  • Rabblr: a bookmarklet chat service that allows embedding chat on any website (no longer online)

  • Mixpanel Query Tool: SAAS to provide a SQL-like interface to query Mixpanel analytics data (profitable, ~$500 MRR) while it lasted (no longer online)

  • NFL Pickaxe: Tool for users to more accurately pick NFL games to make bets on (no longer online)

  • I Have Who Has Creator: Tool for teachers to create I Have Who Has Games quickly and easily. (still online, not monetized https://www.ihavewhohascreator.com)

  • FriendSavvy: Personal CRM to maintain stronger relationships with your friends (still online, just released, https://www.friendsavvy.com)

I'd love to hear from anyone who thinks they have the ambition and skills to build a successful bootstrapped business.

    Hey Chris. So I am COMPLETELY new to this, but have the sales and marketing background, with almost no skills on the technical side. I mean I have built a few websites, but in a novice manner. Do you mind if I pick your brain a little?

    Hi Chirs,

    Thanks for the above some of your ideas are outstanding and a lot of the time it is partly dependent on the Marketing and Sales aspect. I especially like the Friend Savvy idea, and I can see a lot of applications and growth.
