Hi all,
I am in the process of trying to build out my MVP and one of the features it requires is social integration with Facebook.
Unfortunately this seems to be something that Facebook has placed on pause as a result of covid - I've been trying to develop other functionality in the mean time but was wondering if anyone has been facing the same problem? Any suggestions?
Thanks!
very insightful discussion about social logins in adjacent topic
Thanks for sharing! I actually took a look at that yesterday, but Facebook connectivity provides added functionality that goes beyond the convenience of login that I can't imagine can be easily replaced in another manner unfortunately.
like - tapping into users' social circles for example?
I've considered it as well, but then I've read their Terms of Use - and now it actually seems simpler to build a simple NativeScript app to get access to users' phone contacts...
Or are there other things that I missed?
Yep that's exactly it! I guess phone contacts could potentially work - my only hesitation is that I have hardly anyone's contacts saved down. My social circle across platforms such as Facebook / Instagram is at least 10X. Do you feel that it's fairly interchangeable?
it depends.
In my case (and in case of at least 99% of people I know) - the contacts of the most trusted and appreciated peers are stored in the phone contact list, while FB friends list mostly contains much weaker connections - including lots of people that I even hardly know.
So from this perspective, the question is - do you want a shotgun or a sniper rifle :) in other words - do you want to tap into closest peers, or to get as much exposure as possible, no matter the quality.
Again - that's my personal perspective, and the realities in different social groups may differ - so take it with a grain of salt :)
P.S. when gaining users from FB, you don't actually have access to their friends lists. This hole was closed after the Cambridge Analytica scandal and now you only get access to the friends that already use your app.
