How can you make sales/cold emailing fun?
Listening to the latest podcast with Daniel Gross, I realized that if I'm going to become successful at sales and outreach, I have to turn that into a fun game.
Most of the time, coding is easy for me, it doesn't really feel like work. I don't have to use Pomodoros or push myself too hard. When I get into the flow it can become hard to stop. However, for sales, cold emails, paperwork, taxes and many other things they all feel like a tremendous drag.
How can you turn cold emails into a fun habit? I enjoy talking to potential customers, the problem is putting the work to find one that will want to talk to me.

Spend a day or two preparing a cold email template.
When you start work in the morning, just find the person, plug their information into the template, and send the email.
Then, reward yourself afterwards. (I like making coffee.)
Start with just 1 person per day and then increase it.
If you still don't like it, maybe hire a remote contractor or partner to help?
I like the 1 person per day idea. It is such a low threshold, there is no excuse to making it happen. I'm also sure that after I get the first one done, I will realize that is not so bad and will have the energy to do more. It's like when I don't feel like going to the gym and tell myself I will just do some pushups, then I end up doing the whole workout.
That's exactly it!
I would agree with the others - start small, and work your way up. Be ready for a lot of "no" and even more who don't respond.
If your expectations are set correctly, it can be really fun to see who responds, and make the whole process into a game by tweaking your email and subject line, and compete against yourself to achieve a higher open rate, and clickthrough rate.
This is what I did over the past few months with www.folyoz.net . It made the whole process more enjoyable, and I definitely still get excited when I get responses from people who could become qualified leads.
I really like your description of the process, because it reminds me of the pleasure I get out seeing how people respond to landing pages, then tweaking them and seeing results :)
Hi,I been cold emailing/cold messaging for 4 years.. It was easy and quick way to get sales, but it require patience..
at first,it's felt boring but when your first sales came, everything will change..
You need start small, maybe 10 target per day.
Good luck
That's a good point. Maybe I just have to brute force my way through the first sale, and then my motivation will go up for subsequent emailing.
Yup,but remember start small

I agree with your premise that programmers and salespeople have natural flair at different things, but as an indie-hacker, there is no choice but having to do the sales yourself. But I feel you can very well learn to become an OK salesperson even if we never become a master salesman. (As an analogy: You can enjoy golf without aiming to be in the same league as Tiger Woods). My personal motto for 2019 is to go from a maker to a salemaker.

I loved the coding analogy and you are totally right about different personality types being attracted to different careers. I think that in general, CS departments are full of INFPs, INTJs. Hopefully I can get into the mindset you are describing.
