Hi IH,
I have one idea and I need some feedback about it.
Many restaurants don’t reserve tables. So the situation is like: I need go to the restaurant and wait for an available table.
My idea is very simple:
In the entrance of the restaurant will have a placard with one QRCode. I read this QRcode with my phone that will send me to one webpage to insert name, contact and number of people to dinner.
When there is one available table, the restaurant manager insert this in one Backoffice and then I receive one SMS (message) to know already have one table available to dinner.
The most interesting is in the future the AI calculate the waiting time and the client will have an estimation time of the next available table.
There are many solutions available for this need. If you search for "Waitlist software" you will get many results. i.e https://waitwhile.com/
I thought about this idea before (actually I ordered a pizza and it took 45 mins, so I was thinking if they have any way that I can track my order via SMS/Whatsapp etc). Then I looked up online and found many solutions but not that many restaurants end up using them.
Yep this is the answer right here. Lots of technology is available for restaurant owners, but most owners simply don't want to integrate anything "techy" into their business.
That's it. Thank you for feedback :)
How would there be accommodation for people who don't have QR readers on their phones?
I guess, in all phones it's possible read QR Code with camera (nowadays don't need an app for this).
Not true, I have a Blackberry motion that does not read QR, 2-year-old smartphone. You would have to have some option for the people that cannot easily access the system.
You have a Blackberry?? I thought those things were dead.
They don't make hardware anymore, they got Huawei to do the phone and they did the security software. Battery life is killer, lasted me 3 days when I first bought it.
Hmm right! Basically the QRCode is a comfortable way to get some URL. In this case the best way is in placard put URL and QRCode.
A reduced url would definitely work! Also, I don't want to sound mean, just want to give you some questions to think through before you validate.
What makes this a better solution than the devices that restaurants use now? Is it more convenient for the customer? For the restaurant?
The objective it's that.
Question to try to validate :)
Well, in my country "Winter is coming" and if you need dinner out and the restaurant is full you need waiting out of the restaurant in the cold night until the manager calls your name.
In my opinion is more comfortable the costumer having the possibility to go a near coffee drinking something while waiting.
For the restaurant, manager don't need to stay in front of the door and have the possibility to worry with clients.
Management also becomes simpler. Don't need see who is the next person, only need to insert number of tables availables in the platform when clients go out.
@itsnunolemos wouldn't be nice to have the meal of day? Could speed up the process. And how about sharing my phone number? I don't know if the restaurant will use it for publicity.
Nowadays you already share the number phone with the restaurant. When restaurant is full you leave your name and your phone to the manager and when a table is available he calls you.

My goal with this post is really to generate discussion, you don't look negative at all.
Thinking more a technological aspect and forgetting my idea, I'll take Uber as an example.
Not everyone has a smarthphone, not everyone has a internet on smartphone.
Taxis are most used by people out the cities (old people), in the cities can use a public transport but anyway the idea "worked".
We can't always be stuck with old habits, innovation also brings new learning to consumers :)
