[Feedback] Need help picking a date spot? ChooseMyDateNight.com
The Goal: Streamline the decision making process when it comes to choosing a date spot and ease some of the stress associated with dating
The Product: A series of short, fun questions that detail your preferences, leading to an output of up to 2 date ideas, along with suggested places around your location
I welcome all feedback, but I'm especially interested in these two areas:
- What features do you think should be logically added next (if any)?
- What type of revenue model makes sense (possibly tied to features)?
I initially built this as a little toy for me and my friends, but I'm curious if the IH community thinks this may have legs. Thanks! (Apologies in advance if any bugs come up, those would be helpful to know too)
Ok, quick feedback - generally I like the concept! I think it's interesting to categorize it through this wizard, though I'm even curious to have a "See all dates near you" feature (where you show either spots /activities to go near my zip to and let me filter from there rather than having to go wizard soon. So the flow could be, enter your Zip, you show me dates, and then have the wizard options at the top as a filtering bar (if that makes sense)
Someone to plan cool dates for you could be another interesting model (a date concierge) - though would need to think through that a bit more since I do think it takes out some of the magic of you having setup the interesting date yourself :) ... feels a bit less genuine though some may not care, and really it's not that different from googling and finding places. Here it could be, pay $5 to have someone setup the date fully: make the reservation, ensure transportation and other things nearby, other cool areas you might want to know about near there etc- this could almost be like a date guide card. Given people drop a fair amount of $$ on every date this one could actually be a pretty cool direction!

Thanks Nicolae! This is very helpful. I will add a "See all dates" tab with the zip code/map feature like you outlined. I think the idea of a concierge service is a cool long term goal for sure. The concierge service could be the date itself: a concierge randomly picks out a date for you and your mate, and you go in blind. Like a fun adventure.
In terms of tech stack, it's an Angular frontend with a Node.JS backend running on express at Heroku. The rest is just bootstrap, fancy animation libraries and icons!

It's interesting to think through the idea of a blind date that both people agree to, vs. it as a service that helps one side plan good dates. Both could work well, though might be worthwhile to think through the different value props & UX around that. Send me an email when it's up if you want more feedback - I'm at nicolae _ at _ clay.run
Do you have a DB running for this yet on Heroku or just storing it as a JSON object? I was asking as we're trying to make it easier for people to build MVPs with https://base.run and also looking to learn more about where people get stuck / what takes the most time :)

Dates are stored as a basic JSON object for purposes of MVP. However, if I were to set up a database, I'd probably do a mongodb for local or firebase for BaaS. Happy to talk more about your product though (rosshochwert at gmail) and what may separate it from those options.
At the max setting the distance radius goes to about a 5 minute drive. My personal max distance for what I consider local (I can be there in 15 minutes) would be ~3x the radius you have now.
Thanks, that's helpful feedback. I don't have a car and rely on public transport/Ubers, so I was thinking of much shorter distances. You're definitely right though, I will increase the radius about 3x.
