Feedback needed for a feature

Hi
Designed and built a tool to design 3D mockups for boxes. I know it's a very niche need but anyone here who could have a look and give me feedback to see if its purpose is clear. Does it make sense etc?
Questions I have are

  • Easy to use?
  • Is its purpose and what you can do is communicated well?
  • Does the UX make sense?
  • Was it easy to figure out which button does what?, is it intuitive?

Thanks in advance!

Notes:

  • It's not a new website but a feature in it so this is an example link to the feature: https://www.diecuttemplates.com/3d/23281/tuck-top-auto-bottom-boxes-becf-11003

  • You can get an idea without creating an account but to use it 100% it you need an account (it's free to set up and use for this model) If you don't want an account, you can delete the account. If you think it's useful for you I am happy to offer free membership as well.

Thanks. Should I put Steps there? What do you mean?

Yes exactly. Tell me what to do. I have no experience with your software, I have no idea what it's for, bu if you say, hey we'll make an awesome box for your product (Ok, my customers would love it, I get where we are going), step 1, draw this on top of a common card board (Ok, I have to work to get there and I'm lazy as fuck, but man a card board it's really cheap and I can see it's only 6 steps and it would look awesome)... What I really mean is "Tell me MY STORY as a customer though UX"

Thinking in 3D is generally hard for people, and turning users into CAD designers ends up leading to high-maintenance and high-touch support. Having worked on several 3D CAD applications in the past for non-CAD-designer users, I've faced many of these headaches head-on (so to speak :).

If there is a specific customer need you are trying to address with this feature, I'd start from that use case, and only provide controls that directly address that use case. What is the specific use case? "Box design" wouldn't be enough; maybe your users want non-symmetrical box shapes. In that case, just have very simple controls for the dimensions. You also want to make sure that any mistakes the user makes are easily fixable by them. Did they move the slider too far to the right? They should be able to fix it by moving it back to the left.

The fact that there are controls for layers in the UI, for example, will already create challenges for users. As an engineer highly experienced in 3D graphics, even I don't know what the layers do.

Some people tend to suggest having a "basic" and "advanced" mode. I would caution against that, and suggest that you simply be judicious about how much of the design is automated, and how much is controlled by UI widgets.

    HTH :)

Pretty cool tool and service! I used to work in advertising and marketing, and one of the things we had to do all the time was designing boxes for clothing and other retail products for some of our clients.

We had an in-house designer using Adobe Illustrator for this and I remember us having lots of challenges getting the flaps fit correctly once the box was put together. We usually had to get this fixed by the box manufacturing company and it was time consuming.

Regarding your product, you have a niche. You should probably ask your customers, they'll be the ones providing better feedback than us, at least the kind of feedback you're looking for here. I played around with it a little, and it looks good. But if I had to design boxes as part of my job, I would probably tell you a hundred things.

    Best of luck!

    Wow, this looks cool!

I was really impressed by the animation, and I could draw text and shapes on the box and watch it live in the right pane.

That said, I don't really know what you want feedback on. For future feedback requests, I'd recommend being more specific on that so that you actually get feedback on the topics that are important to you.

Thank you very much. Great feedback, I will update the post as well.

The feedback I am looking for it to see if the tool.

      along those lines.

      Thank you very much !

        That's way more clear. 👍

I'd recommend doing proper 1-1 user testing for this. See this awesome page from @jimzarkadas' UX playbook.

That said, I didn't have any complaints during the short time I used the product. I found it pretty self-explanatory.
