Feedback on landing page for data collaboration tool

https://knarr.io/

Hi all,

I've recently started my journey as an indie hacker and am working on my first SaaS business. I'd love some feedback on my landing page to learn about what works and doesn't work.

Hi Speros! Clean design, very neat. I like it.

The only thing that I didn't like was the screen capture you show as first part of the page. The font is very small and a lot of stuff is going on. I faced the same problem with promeldung and decided to go for a mockup animation which does not throw everything at the user at once ;-). Have a look here: https://www.promeldung.de

Maybe that would work for you as well?

    Best and keep on hacking!

Agree, after checking out landing page came back to write about that screen capture, too fast clicking around is happening, really hard to keep up (at least on mobile phone 6,67inch screen) with what's going on. The screen capture takes very "important and expensive" place there, I would remove it or move it at the very bottom, if you still want to showcase how does your product look like.

There are listed main features below, it would be really nice if you add some step by step tutorial how does your product work for your users and how it's easy to do some real life usecase using it.

Overall design, looks really well, clean and solid. Good luck!

Thanks guys, I know what you mean about the video. We're brainstorming some alternatives; you're suggestions really help.

Agree with the others on the gif; I think it's smart to show your product, but the current iteration is unclear as to what's happening. One way to bypass this issue without recording audio is to add prompts (here's a video we put up last week to show how we handled it: https://www.flex.io/ )

What tool did you make the video? I really nice the way it looks + subtitles. Thanks

Out of long-time habit, I use Camtasia (techsmith). It's a pretty intuitive all-in-one screen capture and edit tool; you can also record audio if you have a mic or just dump in a royalty free background track like we did. Also will output gifs as well as mp4. It's a $200 perpetual desktop license, but iirc, their free trial doesn't watermark your output...

Update: we just launched (🎉) and revamped the landing page. We tried incorporating the feedback received here. Still working on a simplified explainer video! Easier said than done :)

Another couple comments in addition to the video:

-- Generally, you're swimming in a very crowded pond with BI/analytics and this landing page is promising a similar value prop (e.g., collaboration, silo tear down, data-driven, productivity) so I'd suggest focusing really hard on what makes you different/better or focusing on a primary use case/niche where you can really blow others away. I played in this world a couple years back and, just based on my experience, its tricky standing out from the pack. We were doing a general collaborative grid for slicing/dicing data together -- but found that many of the tools in this space have a very similar sounding value proposition, even if the app themselves were quite different (charting, dashboarding, piping/automation, or any of the major BI systems) -- just hard to break out from the noise. No question that the promise of BI has consistently failed over the years, no matter how many zillions have been invested by companies, but would try to focus hard on a niche to get a little traction before going too broad. fwiw.

-- Minor issue -- Would suggest looking into opensans instead of, I think, Wonder Unit sans in your sub-header text -- the 'i' is a little distracting at that size (looks like an 'l').

Yep I feel you, I've been in this space for almost 10 years which has informed the motivation and direction here.

Separating from the pack is a problem for us for sure. Our biggest differentiator IMO is how we do collaborative analytics – I'm not aware of another tool taking the approach that we are taking. So I think thats what we need to lean on, but to your point when every tool claims to be "collaborative", we've got to do a better job of demonstrating how we do that better and why people should care.

When you say focus on a niche, are you thinking like focusing on a specific vertical?

Seems like we're kindred spirits fighting the good fight against bad data tools. :)

Internally, we've used the acronym 'YADA' to mean 'yet another data app' -- as it seemed like there was a new thing every week that sounded just close enough to what we were doing to muddy the waters further. I do think there is some room for collaborative tools -- at one end you have a shared google sheet, which is not awesome for data-heavy analytics and on the other you have more static dashboards or queries, where collaboration means multiple people can see them, rather than interact with them. But, yeah -- see what you can do to highlight your superpower.

As for niche, I was thinking maybe you have a particular use case that you can lock onto. This might be an industry vertical if you have one, but since data tools can be widely applicable to any industry, was thinking maybe there is a specific community of users you might know about that would find your particular vision attractive and then build out videos/landingpages/etc to focus on those 1-3 core problems.

The value there is that you can get a foothold focusing on that community -- rather than just being broad and hoping users visit your site and figure out how to make it applicable to their life. We've done a lot of the latter and, from my experience, people are impatient and won't spend the time. This is all the more imperative when there are a thousand other tools that are making similar claims. fwiw.

    Cool design, looks professional.
Maybe you should remove the link to the login? It takes quite a while to load. And it is not clear if there is something behind it.

Thanks! I will look into the slow page load. I'm guessing its the videos and images. We do need the sign in button for our alpha users who are actively using the tool today.
