Hello Indie Hackers,
Yesterday, I put up a landing page for a product idea that I want to build. Fulldock is a webpage-creator for small and local businesses that don’t need a complicated website, but they do need a website that gives their customers the information they are looking for such as location, description, opening hours, etc. Basically a business listing that they can put at their URL.
I’ve been posting about it and so far: no sign-ups, except from a friend of mine! Gotta start somewhere, right?
Would love to hear what you think and what I can do better:

Have you seen RestaurantEngine or HappyTables? They target restaurant owners with a DIY website builder platform (oh and there built on WordPress Multisite <- talk about lean). I say this because they saw great traction by niche-ing down from not only a website builder, but a website builder for restaurant & cafe owners.
There are alot of website builders out there, I guess my question is how are you going to rise above the noise? Catering to a specific market could help you really hit a home run.
Maybe plumbers - who could be on call 24/7 their needs are much more different than a dentist or massage therapist would need in a website.
But overall a great idea, there are millions of businesses today who don't have a responsive website let alone a modern one. GL!
I see what you mean about catering to a specific market, especially after checking out the two restaurant website builders you mentioned. Their messaging is more focused and more understandable.
In this version I chose one of my multiple target groups just for the teaser app photo, which shows a cafe, but obviously that isn’t going to appeal to a dentist. In my mock-ups, I considered doing a slideshow to show all the different use cases, but, it just complicated things more than I’d like.
I’ll try out something more focused with version 2 and post it here again when it’s up.
Thanks for the feedback!
Are you keeping score of how often people click on 'Find out more'? I can imagine people click and don't sign up once they see it's not live yet.
Also, where have you been posting about it?
So to update on the tracking:
It turns out my twitter profile linked to a broken page! I had the site working at fulldock.com, but my subdomain www.fulldock.com was returning a page not found error. Yikes.
Having the experience of successfully launching hundreds of pages in the past for other clients, this is a hilarious way to start my own project :)
On the plus side, since it’s been fixed I’m getting more visitors to the page. I don’t have enough data yet to see how many are clicking on the buttons but a few are. I’ll keep this post updated as I progress.
Haha, I'm sure this happens to all of us. It does to me, at least.
How is it going now? Are you getting closer to a launch or are you working on your email list?
In the last week I’ve been collecting feedback from potential customers and others, and trying to feel out whether or not there is generally interest in the product. A number of people have clicked and viewed the site from my links on twitter, although not many have signed up to the e-mail list. Not many = none.
I personally showed the landing page to a few people and it seems there is a good amount of uncertainty as to what I’m actually trying to do: many were not sure if this is a service where you get a custom site, or if there are different templates available, and so on.
So I’m reworking the splash page to try to make all that more clear, and, as llofa suggested in this thread, I am going to be more specific in my targeting and see what feedback I get. I’ll post version 2 when it’s up.
At least you know what to work on. Good luck, looking forward to see that!
Thanks for your feedback!
No, I haven’t been tracking if anyone’s been clicking that CTA. Good point — changed it now to do so.
I’ve been posting on twitter from the company account (twitter.com/fulldock). Since I don’t have many followers, I’ve been interacting with local business owners, primarily cafes and restaurants. I’ve been getting some likes and retweets and a few have clicked on the website, but it feels like a slow start so far.
