Feedback on list of best movies for learning english

Hi IndieHackers,

the last weeks we have been working on this little project.
https://www.lingo.watch is a handmade list of movies for learning English. For each film there is a personal assessment of us.

What do you think of the idea? What other information would you find useful?

I am a native English speaker so I would not be a user of your product, however I like the idea. The initial title and description on the page gives a good view of what the product is. I also like the simplicity of the movie suggestion form, it's important to ask for as little information and it may be good to add a question on why they think the movie is helpful to learn English.

It is great that it was created from a genuine customer need, and it's great that you've highlighted this on the landing page as other users will be able to easily relate. It is also helpful in identifying a target audience, and you could potentially get friends and colleagues to share with their groups.

I think the whole "about" section could be structured and formatted differently. Currently there are some great points to highlight but they could be hidden in lots of text - perhaps you can change this section to have 3-6 sections each with i) an icon or image, ii) title and iii) description of 2-3 sentences e.g.

    [title] Fun way to learn

[description] We are a creative couple from Germany, who were looking for a new outlet to learn English. Together we combined our technical knowledge and journalistic background to create a playful way to improve our English language skills. This started as a simple tool for us to learn for ourselves, and now we'd like to help other people like us.

A couple of other issues I came across:

    • Disclaimer: second sentence should say "plain" rather than "plane"
    • Contact: link to email does not work

Once you have more users, it would be good to get feedback to include in a "testimonials" section as this can encourage other users to use your service.

Lastly I'm planning to build a landing page tool so it'd be great to know which tool you used for your site and what was important to you in this process. Please let me know if you're willing to share, thanks :)

Wow, many thanks for this very detailed help! We have already implemented some of your points.

We didn't use a landing page tool, but created the page with Laravel and TailwindCSS.

Nevertheless I will keep an eye on your tool and try it out as soon as it is online.

        No problem. That's great news!

Ok thank you for letting me know. I'll surely let you know once my tool is online.

    Good idea.

Watching movies in English, playing video games in English, and setting my phone language to English has been for me the best way to learn.

Don't you think all movies are good for learning English? Or some are superior to others in that respect?

Thank you very much for your feedback!

We think that not all films are suitable for learning English. Therefore we are making this list with our personal opinion. For example, it has made a big difference to our language comprehension whether British or American English is spoken.
