Feedback on my new design

http://designerrecon.com

Hey everyone,

I spent the last couple of weeks designing a new look and feel for my product, designerrecon.com. Could I get some feedback on the landing page and join page? Thank you all!

    Hey Casey,

Here are a couple of thoughts.

    The design is clean. It's
Right now your logo, nav, and headline are all very close in visual weight, so they compete.

I would pull your product name out of your nav element and drop your nav font-size to 1rem. That way, your product name is identifiable, your nav steps back a little and your headline carries the most visual weight.

    In your headline:
Don't capitalize "Designer". Not to sound like a teacher but capitalization is used for proper nouns so it's a little unnatural to have "designer" capitalized in this headline.

Also, the claim that finding a designer "has never been so easy" is hard to substantiate. It's subjective. I would bet that somebody could claim to be able to come up with an "easier" way to find a designer.

Rather than talk about it being easy, I would recommend you focus on why people need the service, to begin with. Do they not have access to design resources? Do they not know where else to look? Do they need staff augmentation? Do you simply have access to the best designers?

What is the core benefit? If they don't find a designer, what happens? Do they lose business?

Try switching it up to be benefit focussed. If you can pull out an emotion, then look for that angle.

    Subheadline:
"We will find you a designer or design team in just a few hours..."

Something about this feels a bit too casual to me. Kinda like when a delivery is scheduled to arrive between 8am and 5pm. People don't like that openness. It also feels like it could be just any old designer. I think you could remedy that by capping the timeframe and change the reference to the designer, e.g.:

"We'll find your next designer in 3 hours or less. Oh, and it's free"

    OR

"We'll find the right designer for you in 3 hours or less. Oh, and it's free".

That way, the customer feels like you're matching them up with the right person and they can set a schedule on when they'll get a return on investment.

    CTA:
"Get Searching" contradicts your subheadline. Your sub talks about how your service will find the designer. Get Searching makes it sound like the customer will be doing the searching.

I'd change it up to align with the message.

    Here's how it works:
I would either remove or re-write this:
"Designer Recon will send out what you need to our network of designers."

Again, something feels too casual about this. It feels laissez-faire, like you're going to send it out and just wait for a designer to respond.

I'm not sure how the service works, but if that is how it works, I'd work the copy a bit more to either illustrate that or abstract it just a bit. I would opt for transparency but the customer doesn't HAVE to know the inner workings. I'd go with something like:

    How it Works
You send us your design brief and we'll find your next designer.

Then go into the bullets you already have.

The first bullet though, I might re-title to "Your Project" rather than "Your Details". That way, if they skim, they know it's about getting their project done by your designers.

I'm assuming it isn't complete but the "Designer Name" section feels out of place. Even picturing it with actual content, it feels like it was stuck in there without a strategy. Even for those who are familiar with the design world, there are only a handful really "famous" designers recognizable by name. Rather than go with a designer persona, I'd show some samples of design work.

    Form:
I'd pare this down to the necessities. Do you really need phone or region?

On the second step, your select boxes need a default selected option. Since you're using Vue, you can set a selected value in your data and set your v-model to that value.

Good luck! Hope it takes off!

      Davey,

First of all, thank you! This feedback is phenomenal. I am going to go through and update my copy.

I was actually thinking of removing the form on the welcome page and going with its own separate page. I can send you my design file if you would like to see it. I was thinking the phone was important so they can be called, often times I see emails just going straight to spam and I wanted to eliminate that. Only designers will have a dashboard because I wanted this to be as simple of a process for 'leads'. I definitely do not need region.

'We then send out your proposal to your network of designers.' I don't get it. Do you mean you're going to send my proposal to 'our' network of designers? I think that is just a simple typo.

How are you going to differentiate from the Upworks and Fiverrs of the world?

    1. 1

Hey Shawn, thank you! Yes, it should be 'our'.

As for setting ourselves aside from Fiverrs and Upworks, is essentially making it easier for people searching for designers. I am building Designer Recon for two reasons, to help non-designers find designers and to help designers find clients.

My goal for Designer Recon is to have a platform that is "pick up and set down" for non-designers. They just fill out a form and then a designer will reach out to them via sms, email, or phone call. Whereas Upwork, they have to manage a dashboard of proposals.

      1. 2

Awesome. Yeah, Upwork has gotten a bit much lately in my opinion. There are so many freelancers, it is pretty much an entire job sifting through proposals, reaching out to people, messaging people, etc. If you can make the simple for this specific 'vertical' that would be great. I may be in the market for a designer soon, so this would be helpful.

The Get Searching button doesn't work.

      Fixing that now!

I think it looks really solid and wouldn't spend more time tweaking it.

If you forced me to nitpick, I would say the following:

    1. On the Desktop version, I think some more padding on the sides would be good.
    2. I would also add an About Us or something like that. Whenever I am looking to buy a product on the internet, I always like to know where it is based and who is behind it.

Thanks! I wanted the padding to be slim, I had it orignally with more padding but I received conflicting input.

An about us is a great idea. I will build one!
