Feedback on my side project?

This morning I posted my side project remotewrk.io on Product Hunt and many other platforms. It had 5 upvotes and 100 visitors, none of which posted an ad.

So after what I would class as a failed launch, I'm hoping to get some feedback on what I could have done differently. Any thoughts?

I think the key is to have a useful differentiator. What is special about your job board?

    • If you have enough viewers, someone will pay for an ad. Why would they pay if they don't know how many visitors you have and there are 1000 other boards?
    • To get viewers, you probably need more listings. That might mean scraping, adding free postings in the beginning, etc.
    • You have the common marketplace problem: the chicken-and-egg between visitors and posters. If you can entice visitors (and repeat visits), then the posters will come.

Want to keep working on it?
Why not talk to some people who are looking for remote work and find out what would get them to come back? What are their struggles? Maybe they want a highly filtered list e-mailed to them, or other boards don't say when a posting is filled, or they only want jobs where salary is listed (or other content). You'll never know until you ask.

Thanks Andrew, that's really useful advice! I think I need to add more value for both the job hunters and employers.
