TBH, I don't really pay much attention to design of blogs. Mostly l like minimalistic styles. You only need to look at all the people using Substack that people care less and less about design these days.

With the name and design, I guess it depends where you see it going. If it's purely personal and you see having it for life, then go with your name. If it's something more industry/niche specific, maybe think of a name that aligns with that.

I just went through this process and I am currently using 'cool name approach' without any connection to my name. It is nice but I somehow don't feel it is my personal domain any more, so I just brought another domain with my name(yet to connect and use it).

It's funny, I actually asked the same question on Twitter and 61% answered "Take your own name" (https://twitter.com/AntoineMilkoff/status/1332790908685840386?s=20). But I wanted to build something more brandable so I went with a name that emphasize the main topic of the website

1. Entrepreneurship, product marketing, branding, and more fall into firstandlast name.
2. Cool name will also work but good luck with finding domain name.
3. Think about the future, like what will happen if you loose interest in that topic.
