Here's my micro-SaaS: https://magicmemos.com
I've tested waters by posting the website to a few smaller communities. But so far I've had zero interest. I'm using this tool almost daily myself and finding it super valuable. What am I not seeing?
I usually accompany the website link with a small story about how I'm using the product – recording while jogging, driving or cleaning and then converting to a blog post with magicmemos.com. That's why I don't yet have a separate landing page. And I usually give out free-to-try discount codes on the post too.
So please be blunt and tell me why magicmemos is not seeing any interest. Everyone that's actually tried it out has been blown away by it.
Definitely needs better landing page and demos, how can I know your product is good if you're not showing anything! Like I don't have an audio file yet, so asking me to upload a file to test definitely steer me away.
I will be brutal and if your technology works, just scrap audio files and start creating a massive website with content from audio files you can find anywhere.
Podcasts, etc... make it amazing, make it big and the users will come.
And 4$ per post is crazy money. You need to make it 4$ unlimited x month. Just in case the user wants to do something in bulk for a specific use case.
Maybe there is too much friction to try it out in the first place?
i.e. you either have to have a recording already, or think what you want to record on, people don't generally just have that stuff ready as (I assume) this is a new concept.
So maybe a way to quickly record like 1 minute on your site and upload, you could ask them a divisive question to talk about to get them going or if you could get them to add from a YouTube vid or something that they might already have?
Ultimately, think people want to see if it works already as otherwise a recording just for this to try it out is effort.
Even if it is a video of you doing it, or an example of the file you uploaded and the output you got?
Yeah, that's probably a big issue. I did try:
But that didn't do the trick.
I have a couple of ideas how to test this further:
What do you think?
Too little information maybe? Also I can just use voice to text on my phone so I don't see why I should be using this.
i'd want to see an example or something more on the landing page. On first impression, I have no idea what the quality or output is!
The product does have value. But I think you're failing to show that to the visitors on the landing page?
You need to give them some more info/demos/testimonials to make it easier for them to make the decision.
Show some demo video, highlight important features of the product, show testimonials from people who already tried it. This will help new visitors to have clear idea of what they're buying and build trust with them.
I personally woudn't buy something based on the social post unless I'm really intrigued by their landing page/site which showcases the products benefits.
Try to revamp the landing page and see if it helps.
Ok, soi guess it's time to roll up my sleeves and build a full landing page. Thanks for the comment! I guess a small social media post is not enough for a full AIDA
yup🙌
It would help to be able to see the interface and examples of blog posts it produces, seeing what the inputs look like / sound like, and then the final result. As a big blog content producer, myself, I can say that the skepticism around these products is often whether the end result (the blog post output) is good enough. If I still have to edit things and clean up I get less enthusiastic. For example, I tried out Copy.ai, didn't think the output was good enough, and then churned.
Don't get me wrong - this workflow is definitely very valuable and a lot of people that do content marketing adopt the transcription -> blog post strategy.
Personally speaking, my workflow is to record conversations on Zoom, download the video, upload the MP4 to YouTube, copy paste the auto-generated transcript for the video into ChatGPT, tell Chat GPT "Clean this up this transcript," and then copy the cleaned up version into my blog drafts area.
The workflow would work similarly if i recorded an MP3 via my phone.
Also, this workflow is free, so my switching costs would have to be really clear - e.g. the new way is significantly faster and better quality.
Hope this helps! I could see your solution being appealing to people that don't want to jump through all these hoops and want a much more intuitive experience and don't mind paying. It would definitely be a nice luxury if it works just as well.
Hi Jehna,
Feedback on website:
Good to show an example on the page of an actual audio and the end result
Maybe I am interested but I am not sure on how I can use this, who is this for? what are they doing with it?
---
Other than website, I learned a very important lesson recently on finding early adopters.
Who are the people supposed to use this? where are they hanging out? and are they actively searching for a solution to this problem?
Find those people and get their feedback.
I like to use Reddit for this.
For 1. you are right, I did post a few ideas on other comments, need to test them out.
For 2. I have tried posting my own use case (don't have time to blog by sitting down hours on a computer) with a link to the service. It could be that I'm overestimating how many people hold keeping a blog in high enough value 🤔
I think 2. is spot on, I do need to figure out more and better use cases. I'll need to look into that.
I know I could reach a lot more people by going to reddit/hn/betalist/producthunt, but I think I need to get the site's conversion rate to a sane level before going to big crowds. That's why I have been testing with smaller communities where I think some potential customers would be.
For the communities idea it’s not about reaching a lot more people
It’s about finding people who are actively searching or complaining about the problem you are solving
Ex you might find a blogger who is asking for a tool like this
That person is the best person to ask for feedback
Oh, I see now. Thank you, I'll definitely try to get into that!
Beside the LP, the pricing is just absurd.
No one would pay $4/blog post.
There are already SaaS out there that do this for a monthly subscription and no limits.
I would like to see videos/demos.
The website is minimalistic for sure. But may be a bit much. A demo would be great and also 1 free/discounted post might motivate more users to try. You could also add a few samples of some viral audio clips that you've converted to blog posts.
It's possible that your target audience is not being reached or that the value proposition of Magic Memos is not clear enough on the website. Consider optimizing your website for SEO, defining your target audience, and highlighting the unique benefits of your product. It may also be helpful to gather feedback from those who have tried the product to see if there are any areas for improvement.
Brutal truth: no apparent value.
I'm not sure who records voice memos that they would want to be turned into a blog post. That would seem to be the most difficult way to write.
More helpful feedback:
Hey Jehna, could you maybe do a product demo video that we can watch?
I'd love to learn more especially if you say that people are mind blown once they use it and also a fellow founder I strongly empathize and resonate with the problem you are facing. Let's connect on Twitter.
Here is my impression from the initial look on the page.
There is zero information on what exactly will I get or why should I use it, and what are some of the use cases.
I've felt kinda confused since it asks me to upload some voice recording without telling me what will I get, is there are some things I should pay attention to, what works best and so on. And because of that I don't have any interest in uploading, since everything is very vague.
Hope this helps!
Just as others have already mentioned people want to see how it works, I suggest you add some kind of preview? or Test? Maybe even allow people to start recording and on creation of the blog post stop half way and ask for money? This way they have made the trail and seen what it can do and wether they like it or not they can get the whole deal
Add an example post so I know what it would look like.
Currently, it sounds like an audio to text service to me, and so it feels crazy to pay 4$ per audio just to convert it into raw text.
Hey Jehna,
I've been creating, selling and marketing for nearly 20 years, so here's my two cents based on that experience:
It doesn't matter how good your product is, only a tiny % of your target audience is actively looking or even open to buying it at any point in time.
This is NOT specific to your product - it's the case for everyone.
But these 'active buyers' are very hard to find.
The reality is that your marketing is reaching those 99% who aren't really looking to spend money on your product right now.
As such, because you are putting your product in front of them, they are ignoring it.
You've got two options:
a) try and find those active buyers (VERY hard and/or expensive - even for companies with lots of money and resources
b) work out a way to persuade those you're already reaching that they need your solution.
I heartily recommend option b.
Rather than repeating everything that I've already said here on this forum, twitter, LinkedIn etc. I'll just point you to a complete resource that explains exactly how to do option b (with case studies) - www.thebluntmethod.com
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
Good luck
Best
Chris
Do those "huge wall of text" style landing pages convert well? 🤔 I do know a couple of marketers that always do them, but never seen any bigger corporations that I know a/b test everything to have that style
Depends on the company
