Feedbacks from non-users are WORTHLESS

Feedbacks from non-users don't provide any value.

Founders often don't distinguish the differences between customer feedback and garbage feedbacks. This can cause you a lot of time and money.

Getting feedback from users is very valuable. Because they are the people who are using your product and paying the bill. But people who are not using your product will often give useless suggestions. The worst case is definitely having someone who doesn't have the problem that you are solving gives you suggestions on your idea. They don't care and they don't know about the market that you are in. Therefore, they will provide garbage data.

I personally didn't like pioneer for that reason. Unless I get to chat with the founder of Slack to get some insight, but I don't think they are on the pioneer. My experience with leads from pioneer is horrible. Two dudes signed up my waitlist, one was browsing for fun, another was just trying to talk and he couldn't even remember what platform I was building. Do you really want to get feedback from these types of people?

I have to say I still value information from non-users if they have the problem that I am solving. Let's be real, no one started their project with 100 users, you need to talk to people. But non-users with absolutely no problem in the problem you are solving? I don't see how that will work out. It all ended up pretty bad in my experience.

Get rid of the noise, get to the right people, get the right data, build the right stuff.

Hmm. I get the where you are coming from. I guess providing more context would have helped. I guess the trick is always ‘knowing your Audience’ and I’d have to disagree that feedback from non-user is unimportant. On the flip side, feedback from users is also important. listen to non-user to convince them to join, and listen to users to convince them to stay. A good balance with them is always takes time.

    Keep pushing!

I think I made it pretty clear that i agree non-user with the right problem is worth it.

hey Kanglelin. In the beginning everybody will be a non user so i guess you won't get around talking to a bunch of people that won't even use your product. I guess that the goal is to find those people and to filter them out. I'm not sure at what kinda stage you are at right now but it's just like @Abishek_Muthian said: Knowing WHY people dont use your product is also very important. Just make sure that you dont spend too much time on them. Just find out the reason for their desinterest and after that leave them alone. THey might still be valuable though if they jump on board during the mainstream phase

Edit: I definitely recommend "The Mom Test" from Rob Fitzpatrick. It might be very helpful on how to have great customer feedback

I agree, I think that's what i was trying to say in the article:"I have to say I still value information from non-users if they have the problem that I am solving. Let's be real, no one started their project with 100 users, you need to talk to people."

I like the mom test, I have read it a couple of times.

But why they are a non-user and not a user should be a valuable feedback.

totally, if they r non user, it would be a very valueble feedback.

It would be a good time to look into why that's happening

I think non-user feedback is valuable. There will always be more of them than your user, and there is a greater chance that one of your prospective user will learn about your product from one of their non-user friend.
It's the job of the founder to filter feedback and know what's useful and what's not !

non user feedback can be useful if they are in the problem space you are solving, but non user without the problem you are solving is useless, therefore i agree with your opinion.

btw i think datapeek is very cool, I think people all want to launch their product on HN

        Thanks for datapeek comment :)

You said it perfectly about non-users. Even for users, I really think knowing how to listen to user feedback is an art/talent. It's part of what makes great founder. You have to map it to your internal model of your users, of your product. You have to discard like 90% of the feedback. But tu be ready to not dismiss the important 10%.

        It's hard work !

i would say work smarter not harder lol. the important 10% don't care about a little barrier
