Hi everybody,

Is there someone on here who has experience selling a side-project or startup via a site such a flippa.com? I am looking to find a new home for my startup where it can get the time and attention it deserves but want to make sure I am not forgetting any important things before I put it out there. If there is anybody that would like to chat with me and share their experience or tips, that would be immensely appreciated.

All the best!

I would not advise using a site like that. Use a proper broker like FE International. That's what I did when I sold a business a few years back. With a broker, they have access to thousands of buyers who are just waiting to buy a business. It sold in just a few months.

If you go this route you're going to need to have paperwork and bank statements for the last 3-4 months to prove income. It's A LOT of work up front, but Thomas and Ismael are amazing at what they do.

      Hi nphaskins,

Thanks for the reply. Good to hear your thoughts on this. For some reason I feel a broker might be to big of an approach with the platform that I am selling. It is an established business but at the same time can still really be seen as a starter business given that there is so much that can still be done. For some reason I have the impression that you need to have a well established business to go via a broker but I might be wrong here.

      Take care,

You will indeed need a verifiable track record of proven income for the business before going with a broker.

        Good luck!

I sold a startup in Empire Flippers. My biggest advice is that it take a bit longer than you think to get listed. Have numbers and proof of numbers ready helps. I would also push back on the valuation they offer and ask for more. Are you making revenue?

      Hi Dawie,

We are but it's negligible at this point (ca 65 organic users per day). I focused fully on organic traffic and good ranking in Google but we have had some up and downs and issue that we had to resolve as well as massive redesigns. Finally, since a month or so we are back on track again.

      Take care,

    Hey Valentijn
I checked your profile and just to check, are you seling courseroot.com ? I run an edtech platform and could be useful for our business to aquire this if you have good traffic and/or revenue. Btw, I also did a transaction on flippa for my edtech project but as a buyer. So I can give you some tips on that as well. Do you want to chat sometime ? I am in Northeast USA (EST Timezone) but let me know what works for you.
    Thanks
    Yash

      Hi Yash,

Yes, it is regarding Courseroot. I'd love to chat with you if you can make the time. That would be super appreciated! Traffic/revenue wise the platform probably is not to interesting for you (we have an average of 65 organic visitors each day) but you never know. I am looking for somebody who can spend the time and attention it deserves on segments like organic backlink building, social media presence, blog writing, and more. The platform works like a charm and have gotten a great deal of positive feedback (e.g. #1 on Product Hunt with +1680 upvotes) but just needs a bit more time and attention to take it to the next level.

In any case, I'd love to chat, I am in the middle of the listing process on flippa at the moment but I will definitely put this on halt. Let me know what works for you (chat, skype, zoom, email, all good) and how we can connect (I live in the Netherlands, CET time).

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    What does your startup do?

      Hi!

Courseroot is a search engine for the best online courses on the internet, allowing prospective students to filter through +80.000 courses from the biggest platforms on the web. https://courseroot.com/

It is a super simple concept but works incredibly well.

      Take care,

      Valentijn
