Fighting toilet paper hoarding with code
By Tuesday, March 17th, the coronavirus outbreak had been officially declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation for five days and Europe had replaced China as the epicenter of the outbreak.
I had to keep my mind off the negative news and stay positive by keeping busy with what I know best — coding. I sat down in the evening to build a simple web app that could help people in two ways: educate and provide a bit of fun.
So I built www.toiletpapercalculator.com - shared with my colleagues, friends and online community.
Within a week it was featured in several media outlets including Newsweek and made me really happy to see close to 100k unique visitors.
By all standards, it is a very modest success but has given me a lot of energy to work on stuff that can gain traction and provide value for the public.
