Finance tracking?

Any personal finance tracking nerds out here? I've been trying many applications since 2012, and in 2017 wrote my own (Python + React), for my family, since none of existing ones never had all the features i needed. I never intended to publish it, but now looking for something to start business with, and it might be a good opportunity (since i have the software and tested it at least on my family :)). If you have problems/pains with existing finance tracking and budgeting software, could you please share them? What ideal set of features you are looking for? What features are less appealing or even pointless for you?

My personal "must haves" list:

  1. Reconciliation of current balances (otherwise how you can make sure you are on track?)
  2. Savings rate (Hi FI!)
  3. Automatic data pulling (I use plaid for it) + manual transactions + CSV parsing
  4. Monthly cashflow
  5. Family net worth growth (external fat!)
  6. Automatic transactions categorization (I use some simple ML algorithms) + manual corrections if needed
  7. Income/Spending charts
  8. Budgeting
  9. Accounts categorization
List goes on and on for me, i really enjoy adding more stuff to it.

Trying to figure out where i am at, and is there a real opportunity here, or should I keep it for myself :)

I've experimented with a variety of financial tracking apps over the years. They all turned out to be too disappointing for me. I don't really keep up with my finances on a regular basis. So perhaps I was the only one at fault. Instead of using applications, I chose to work with a real financial advisor. I spoke with one from three years ago. Since then, we've been collaborating. I am pleased with the work the company does, and I think its cost

I've tried multiple apps for finance tracking throughout my life. All of them ended up disappointing me too much. I'm not really the kind of person who regularly tracks my finances. So it might have been only my fault. I decided to switch from apps to an actual financial advisor. I contacted one from https://mcdanielcorp.com/ 2 years ago. I've been working with him ever since. I am happy about the company's work, and its prices are quite reasonable.

It seems good. I'm also working for Finance project on my dynamic website of general labilities. Can you please share any public source code for my website that helps in filter feature? You can see the website here https://generalliabilityinsure.com/

    Hi,

I have something similar but only for CSV files. I save the data in the DB and analyze it.
I didn't like external solutions because they were over complicated, I wanted to basically see all our spending, income, savings and categorization. Nothing more.

I am curious, what stack did you use? Do you think I can help with the project?

      It is Python + React.
I am refactoring backend now, and when it will be presentable - we can discuss it i think. On the backend side i pretty much covered, however, frontend is a pain for me.

Wow, seems like you’re pretty far already!

One thing I’ve struggled with in the past is maintaining budgets between the whole family. I sketched out a system to try and do a hybrid passive tracking system + a more active envelope type budget system.

Nice! Budgeting within a family (between members?) is an interesting idea actually. Thank you for responding, feels like it maybe useful! Will definitely give it a thought, and will try to gather more information.
