Find a job that is cool with you building on the side
Problem 1: Employees Want To Be Free To Build
Do you have that entrepreneurial spirit to build side projects, but have to continue to work to make ends meet? Ever worry about your employer (and/or manager) thinking your priorities are messed up, or, even worse, getting sued for ownership of your side hustle if it does take off?
Or are you trying to build your own business full-time but are running short on funds? Maybe you would be interested in finding a job to sustain you while you continue to build.
Problem 2: Employers Want To Hire Entrepreneurs
If you're an employer, you want to find people who get sh*t done and make things happen. You want to signal to potential hires that you understand that employees aren't hired for life, but instead that you will get a few years to benefit from the amazing work of people you hire.
Pitch
Particularly for people in in-demand lines of work (e.g., coders) the employer/employee relationship has changed. Employees want to work remotely. They want work/life balance. They want to be able to build their dream.
There are a couple of employers who get this already and specifically mention in their job postings that they are cool (even encouraging) of side projects.
I believe this will increase over the next few years, so I'm working to build a job board that only lists employers/jobs that are cool with side projects.
