Finding startup ideas at work
Hi,
I'm a product manager at a big tech company. While working here, I'v noticed lots of different problems/opportunities that I think would make for great b2b startups.
Really interested to know if this has been anyone's path to starting up? Identifying a problem/opportunity at work and building a solution for it?
In some ways it's the best way to do it. You get to see a big tech company's areas of pain, and are able to build a solution for it. And it's been done many times before, often with the resulting startup being bought by the former employers!
Unless a non-compete clause in your employment prevents you from doing so, it's a better way than most to come up with an idea. It's vital that you really understand the pain that's being felt, though, rather than what just looks like the pain.
