Hey all!
Today I opened up my analytics dashboard to see that I had hit 1000 page views on the landing page. There are a couple notable statistics, which I'll point out below, both good and bad.
Unique Visitors: 582
Since a lot of the page views are just me, it's good to see that I'm also quickly moving up that unique visitor list.
Direct traffic and referral traffic ratio: 48%-46%
The amount of people coming to my site from all referrers is about equal to the amount of people typing it in directly. If I had to guess, this ratio is getting messed up by the amount of times I directly go to my site, and referral should be higher.
IndieHackers is 92% of my referrals!
I don't know if this is a good or bad thing. On one hand, hopefully some IndieHackers are developers who are interested in the product and signing up, but I'm sure there are plenty who are looking at my website as a founder, in which case they are messing up the statistics. I love IH though, so I'll take the analytics hit :)
Twitter amounts to 2% of my traffic, and Google ads is 1%
I think Twitter has the chance to grow as I try to become more active (follow me if you want!). Google Ads has been mostly a bust, and I should probably turn off my spending campaign.
Conversion has ben around 8.5%
Out of the 582 unique visitors, I've had roughly 30 sign-ups for the beta. I have no clue if this is good or bad, and I would love some insight on this!
Lastly: People are finding me on google? WTF??
Apparently, 25 page views have come via "organic" means. I can't verify this number, but I recently set up Google Webmaster and it agrees that three people have come in via organic search in the past week. I have absolutely no clue what they would have typed in to find my website, but it's interesting to see! If anyone knows how I can find this out, I'd love to know!
That's it for now! Happy to answer any questions about how I went from 0 to 1000 page views. Not amazingly impressive but sometimes it feels like starting is the hardest part.

Hey Kevin,
Congrats on 1,000 page views. I hope 1,000 unique visitors comes soon too!
Just wanted to chime in on the referral traffic and conversion rate real fast. IndieHackers is an awesome community, and I think there is a bit of an overlap between what your product does and the IndieHacker community. That said, in my experience, most people who come to your website from IndieHackers come out of curiosity. This community is happy to come check out your website and support you, but they may not be your ideal target audience. Which brings us to our next point...
Conversion rate. Conversion rate varies by offering and industry, so it's hard to say whether your conversion rate is objectively good or bad. I think, in general, a conversion rate over 3%-4% is healthy. 8% and up you start heading towards above average territory. How does a landing page achieve an above average conversion rate? You either have really good targeting, a really good offer, or both. We just established that the targeting isn't the best, so it's likely that it's a good offer - which it is (your offering free value). That said, you won't know how well the paid offer converts until you launch, and then you'll be able to adjust your strategy from there - whether that's adjusting your offer or your traffic efforts.
Hope that helped. Good luck.
Cheers,
John
Hey John,
