First paying customer 🎉

Hi guys!

Just wanted to share that chartsnap.io got it's first paying customer today.
To be honest, the primary goal of this project was to prove that I could create a product that at least someone would pay for. Finish something instead of always giving up and starting something new.

Now that the idea is sort of validated I will consider options to gather feedback in general for my product and start creating / expanding features to make it as useful as possible.

Also I think the landing page kind of sucks now and I could explain the features a bit more than just running a GIF, maybe this could help with conversion.

Some key dates:
22. July - first commit
15. August - release of MVP
2. September - first paying customer

From first line of code to first paying customer in 43 days!

Landing page does a really good job of communicating what the product is.
Videos are usually not easy. I know its literally just screen capture, but it was only possible because the UX is so smooth and intuitive.

Thank you for your feedback! The main selling point of the application is trying to be as simple as possible, love that you understand this. I just somehow feel that the landing page could perhaps do some additional work of maybe explaining features better (convince more people)

    Congratulations! That's amazing!

  3. 2

congratulations! how did you get them?

    1. 1

      Thanks, posting on reddit!

  4. 2

Congratulations!! That's exciting. Was it a pre-launch customer or do you already have a working product?

    1. 1

Thanks! I had a working MVP and then started creating posts on reddit. Not a long term strategy but should work for the first couple of users I think

  5. 2

    Congrats!

I really like on how tight a deadline you managed to accomplish this, this is really cool!
Have you followed a framework or past lessons to execute on it so quickly?

    1. 2

Thanks! I guess I learned from countless unfinished side projects. One of the main goals of following through with this application was to:

      1. get over the hurdle of charging people for something (stripe integration)
      2. build a micro-saas template that can easily be adapted

I built the application in such a way that it is pretty much an internal application (the application you see once you have signed up & paid), protected by a landing page and payment flow.

This makes it easy for me to build pretty much any MVP and just swap out the landing page video / text and change the code of the internal application to any MVP that I want to push out.

      1. 2

        That's so great!

I've already been thinking in that direction 😄
I'm really excited about building my first few items and once I have a landing page and an MVP codebase that works, I also wanted to store it in a minimalistic way so I can easily reproduce it for a new product 😄😂

Typical software-developer thinking; haven't even built version 1 and already thinking about scale / not doing something inefficiently twice 😂

Congrats, I literally just saw a chartsnap on reddit. Top of dataisbeautiful so hopefully some more paying customers incoming.

Thanks! Yep hehe this is part of my current marketing strategy :D
I don't think the users are highly targeted but it still brings in traffic and this specific post lead to a couple of sign ups but no paying customers yet

  7. 2

    congrats that's an important thing.

  8. 2

Congrats.. its the best feeling ever.. main objective is to retain the customer now.

    1. 2

Agreed! @shomski really well done. Such a buzz!

      • @rajanverma_me you’re totally correct, sale and retention is key, @shomski just from my experience your customer onboarding is the most important part of the entire process.

Good luck and all the best

  9. 2

    Congratulations... Best of Luck...

I also suggest you to add more option & Free Version Initially to attract Signups... You can Convert then soon if they find your product useful...

  10. 2

Big congrats @shomski! It's always a great feeling getting your first customer. Keep it up! Let me know if you need any help with growth.

  11. 2

    Congratulations! 🎉

  12. 2

Great work!!! I agree with people posting here. Tell users why your product is unique (even if it's not quite accurate).

  13. 2

Wow first paying customer after less than 2 months is amazing!

I needed to create a graph yesterday and used a free site. What is the difference between your site and other sites offering such a free service? What are your unique features?
Maybe you should offer a free service with basic features to attract more customers and add a Pro paid version.

    1. 2

      Thanks for your feedback!

I guess the main selling point is the simplicity of the application. No complex features that aren't really necessary - just add data and you can already see what your chart looks like in real-time.

From looking at competitors they are either:

      • too complicated
      • too many features
      • outdated designs

The goal is for users to simply create nice looking graphs/charts with a couple of clicks.

I considered, and had, a free version when I released the MVP a couple of days ago, but transitioned to a pro only application to see if people would pay for such an application. The downside of having a free/pro version at the current stage (still MVP) is the lack of features.

I think this could be the way to go however, when additional "requested" features have been added!

      1. 2

        Agree, makes sense.
If you continue attracting new paying customers, which is a difficult task :) then free/pro is not necessary at this stage.

  14. 2

Congratulations! You've done a big job! I like your product idea. Look into Reddit and LinkedIn for acquiring more paying users consistently. I've built sales funnels for other early-stage SaaS earlier, message me on Twitter if you want some help.

    1. 1

Thanks! I might be interested in your ideas for Reddit, I have tried a couple of things..

First paying customer in 43 days!! Congratulations!

Pretty cool app as well. I definitely agree that the landing page could use some improvements

I am sure with a few hours on webflow you could create something pretty engaging already!

    1. 1

Thanks! I have never really checked webflow out, only heard about it through ads - might be worth considering thanks!

  16. 1

Congratulations and thank you for providing the key dates, details always help other folks (including myself)!
