Hey everyone! I'm super pumped to be a part of IndieHackers and contribute my little grain of sand to the community. A few months ago after getting fired from my job I started working on Hevy app, a new workout logging app.
I recently documented the entire product development process, from idea to launch πIt's brutally honest, no BS. Itβs been a rollercoaster of an experience so far and I hope others can benefit from my learnings.
Excited to keep sharing my experiences and learning from everyone. What has been your biggest learning so far?

Awesome, congratulations on the launch!
Can you give a sense of what kind of growth you guys have had? How many users currently use the product?
Also, so how are you guys planning on making money? Is it through ads?
Gonna download the app once I get home and try it out! Congrats again.
Thanks!
We're at around 250-300 weekly active users. It's still low volume, but we've had good engagement retention so far, about 30% of users come back in their second week, and that flattens out to 20% of users keep coming back in weeks 2-10.
We want to sell PRO subscriptions through the app. We want to make a clean transition, all the users that have downloaded the app up until we start selling the subscription will have a free lifetime PRO account, as an early adopter thank you.
There will always be a Free version of the app, and the PRO subscription will simply unlock more features for power users. We want to keep the subscription pricing fair, and build a fantastic product that people actually want to buy and renew every month. We'll have to experiment with pricing to make sure we optimise for community satisfaction and our viability as a business :)
Hey! Welcome and Thanks for sharing.
I saw your product and i was really impressed. From the presentation, website, previews in the stores. You did an excellent job!
Great article btw! Keep the good work!
Hey luanmuniz, I appreciate the kind words. Now the bigger challenge will be to get users and grow π
great content, keep up the good work.
Thanks! :)
I was immediately drawn by the app once I saw @desmondmc's post on the November's welcome thread. I have tried a couple of tracking apps and nothing really converted me. I tried Hevy on my next workout and I loved it. Simple, yet effective. I set up a routine quite easily. I love the fact that you can choose if you want to use the default reps and weight in the predefined workout or if you want to overwrite them with what you achieved on the last one. I also really liked the tick box feature - that was a major feature for me. I also like the social element of it - I think it will drive engagement. Just one thing I would love - small + and - signs next to the weight and reps. I usually tend to do 1 or 2 more reps or try to challenge myself with 1kg more therefore it would be easier for me to just tap a + sign instead of writing it. Same goes for some off days where I don't really feel it - i tend to go on the lower end. Overall I like the app and I plan to use if further. Great job! :)
Hey @sanchezy! I'm really happy to hear you're enjoying the app :D. The +/- feature is a good idea. I'll see if we can make it work. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more ideas as you use the app more! β€οΈ
Welcome and thanks for sharing!
Would recommend putting a summary of the actual content here instead of directing people to medium. Makes it easier for everyone to read.
Thank you! Yes you're totally right, I'll do that next time :)
