First side-project landing validation! GoPro Renting

https://alquilargopro.launchaco.com

Hey guys, this Italo from Perú. I've been reading this blog since few months ago and It's been really motivational to starting a side project, learn new skills and from your personal experiences. Finally, as I started reading the book MAKE from @levelsio I just launch my first idea. GoPro renting service. You can find the first landing page here: https://alquilargopro.launchaco.com

Some of the questions and help I need it to get:

  • Could you use our renting services? Yes/No Why?
  • What about the price? I'm charging 10$ per day aproximately

Things that I'm still trying to solve:

  • Guarantee in case of damage or lost
  • Delivery of the GoPro
  • Security

Thanks for all your help and time! Regards

PD. The landing page is in spanish because of my country language, hope you can check it anyway!

Hola Italo, excelente proyecto ... qué tal te ha ido? Has tenido engagement?

Saludos

I know that maybe you're just starting out, but you could add a "customize" accessories page and charge a bit more for specific accessories.

For my previous vacations I was considering purchasing a GoPro, I ended up not doing so b.c. I would only really be using it when on vacation (2x/year) and it's a bit expensive (plus all the gear).

It's great for those that don't want to deal with a phones touch screen to capture the moments of the day.

That said, I found that using a regular smartphone did the trick.

Hi Tristian, yes I think I will do that in the following months. (adding a customize accesories page for every sport niche). I got the idea because I had the same dilemma than you: I do want to take nice pictures on my vacations trip (2x/year) but I didn't want to spend 400$ for it. Let's see if there is people that can pay for that.
Thanks for your feedback I really appreciate.

I own a GoPro, so not in your target market.

However, don't show the video from GoPro, and an image of a GoPro. If people are on your site, they probably know what a GoPro is. Focus on what you do for them.

How you get them the camera, how you help them. Price etc.

Good luck and go talk to 10 people you think should use this!

Thanks for your feedback! For sure in the next days I'll create a video explaining how the service works. I'll talk to the young guys (15 - 25 ) who practice "extreme" sports close to my house and ask if they will try it. Thanks, Josh!

    Check out LensRentals.com
    https://www.lensrentals.com/rent/gopro-hero7-black
They charge $47/week for about $6.70/day (no coverage). Prices go higher for different kinds of insurance coverage. Check out their fine print for damaged/loss equipment, shipping, etc.

    There's also https://www.borrowlenses.com/AdvancedSearch.do?searchString=gopro
    for similar pricing.

Thanks for the information man! I'll check those websites to see how they handle prices, guarantee, security and value proposition.

    Would I use it:
As a hobbyist, I wouldn't. Let's say I'm planning a trip with my friends and I want to use a gopro but I don't have one. There's a good chance one of my friends has one and I'd just ask around to see if I could borrow theirs for a few days.

If I was in the film industry or working on a project that required multiple go pros, I would.

There might be other use cases, video equipment rental services aren't exactly my field of expertise so maybe take a look at similar tech rental businesses to see who their target audiences are.

    Price:
$10 a day seems reasonable to me but idk who your target audience is and what they can afford. Are they traveling day trippers from other countries that want to rent a single gopro, university students using it for projects, or professionals that want to rent like 30 at a time?

Find who you want to market to first then ask them about what they would be willing to pay. They'll most likely say a lower number than they're actually willing to pay so just add a dollar or two to it. (e.g. when netflix came out I said I wouldn't pay more than $8, I'm paying close to 15 now.) If most of your target audience says they'll be willing to pay 10 dollars, charge 11-12.

    Guarantee:
The insurance part is interesting. As a business, I don't think I would cover lost cameras unless I had a third party insurance provider that covered the cost of lost items because there would be no way to know if your customer is just taking the gopro. Similar in terms of damage unless there's a way to tag each gopro with a unique id to know you're actually getting your gopro back instead of a swapped out broken gopro.

Assuming that the gopro is tagged with a tamper-proof unique id, I could see charging like $15-20 insurance fee per rental but you'd have to work out the math with the likely frequency of damages and test the market to see if people would be willing to pay $15.

    Delivery:
Use whatever delivery service that is reputable and offers tracking. Idk if you have grab or uber in your city but you could use their parcel delivery option for orders within your city.
You could also provide a pickup option so the customer comes to you to pick up the equipment.

I don't know what you mean by security.

Cool idea though, best of luck!

Hi! Thanks for your feedback It was really helpful. I like the idea of tamper-proof unique for security and make sure that i'm getting back another goPro. I'll start searching for a way to do that. About delivery, I will also give the client the alternative to pick up in my office or house (Lima center). Thanks man!
