First steps for a SaaS product for niche industry

Hello. I have identified a use case in a relatively small niche of mental health industry. Total customer base would be <10,000 people at first based on the number of professionals in the USA in this niche. I also have a leading member of that professional community willing to endorse my product. Does anyone have experience with creating a landing page to gauge interest for such a small market? I am trying to decide whether to build a landing page/“signup for update page” or go right to building a deploying an MVP.

I posted this many times and also a big believer in starting small with landing page and building waitlist. I have written about Mental Health niche and trends on this space at Micro SaaS Ideas earlier.

Back to your question - I would highly recommend you to start with a landing page, build your waitlist to 70-100 people before investing time on actually building the product.

Building a marketing strategy is always number one step. Creating content, social media marketing, paid advertising, or attending industry events, etc.

Nice! I would personally start with a landing page where you can collect email addresses of potential interested customers. If you get enough traction, you can move onto creating an MVP.

I would definitely build a quick landing page with a waitlist capture in the hero section. That way you'll have a potential user base as soon as you finish your MVP.

For a niche industry with a small customer base, creating a landing page to gauge interest before building and deploying an MVP would be a wise first step, especially with the endorsement of a leading member of the professional community.

Hard to give you a recommendation based on this info. For example, I'd want to know more about the problem you're trying to solve as well as who your target customer is.

But at a high-level, I'd focus on building a landing page, getting people to sign up to your email list, then there's a few different approaches you could take from there. One would be to pre-sell, nothing will test product market fit like actual sales.
