Hi,
Even though it's still in private beta, I feel I needed to take Gumroad's pricing changes and introduce a platform I'm building for creators to sell their content: Tangara.
The pricing structure is, I believe, way better for everyone, from $0 to $1m in revenue. Some examples:
$0 - $500: You can use the free plan for 5% transaction fees + Stripe's fees, so 7.9% + $0.30c
$500+: You may use the first paid tier plan for CAD $25 (around $19 USD). No Tangara transaction fees. You still have Stripe fees of 2.9% + $0.30c.
From there it's up to you, you may continue using the free plan or upgrade to get new functionalities and remove the 5% Tangara transaction fees.
It's still in an early phase, but the free plan is ready.
There are currently no email marketing features. At this moment, you may create a product pages, sell your content (digital or physical), take credit card payments via your Stripe account, and see your sales per product.
I'm not saying it is as feature-rich as the established players out there. But I have a lot of differentiation coming that will make Tangara an excellent place for creators. I want to build a great business for my family and me and have the most globally respectful pricing wherever you live in the world.
And yes, the plan prices are in Canadian dollars—another way to save some money for the most majority of countries in the world (vs USD).
The application UI as well as product pages are multi-lingual. English and French are currently supported.
I'd be very interested to hear any feedback.
Thanks
Oh, I definitely miss the old gumroad pricing. The appeal of platforms like gumroad, paddle, and others is that they are the “merchant of record”, meaning they handle all the complexities of European taxes.
Stripe is soon to launch their tax handling feature (if it's not already available). Hopefully that'll help not being the "merchant of record".
But I see your point.
