For those with kids, do you want your kids to learn coding?

I want them to learning coding in the same way I want them to learn to play an instrument - in order to broaden their horizons and give them the opportunity to try something new.

I do, to some degree, but I view them as future support skills, rather than being core skills in the main business of the future opportunities in energy, climate and environment. I don't view those three sectors as "tech" in the way most of us view "tech" today, which is essentially software-dominated.

In other words, in the age of big tech, the essential entrepreneurial skills of the founders were usually (not always, I agree), tech-based. As we move away from "tech for tech' s sake" into areas which are much more important for us all, I think the type of coding skills we have today will be viewed as a given ( a bit like how to use PowerPoint - most people can do it), rather than core skills which can make a difference to the future direction and success of a new-domain business.

I speak as a long-term coder, so I am very conscious that I'm describing and anticipating a future decline in demand! :-)
