Founders, don’t create a sense of urgency, foster a sense of purpose

Absolutely found this when I worked in corporate. Urgency, urgency, urgency. When I worked at a startup, it was the opposite - all about purpose. The difference it makes is unbelievable. It's the reason why I founded my own business, and I hope my (few) employees would say that I lead with purpose and not urgency : )
What's your guys purpose?
It seems that a perpetual sense of urgency slowly starts to become a culture in and of itself that is impossible to escape. These are some helpful examples to break out of this cycle.
Love the infographic. I was trying to think of ways to differentiate between the two and then you provided the infographic - super helpful - thanks👍
It's funny to see the post date on this being 2016 -- I think this attitude (which in my experience is largely correct) is getting pushed back on HEAVILY these days. Connecting purpose to acceptable financial results for investors is a lot easier in zero-interest rate world, because so much of that connection is theoretical and forward facing.
I think we're getting a lot of broad demands for "URGENCY" from big tech these days (implicitly attached to the threat of job loss), and I think we're going to see a lot of the downsides Lockhart calls out in this post, especially from companies that have been operating with that purpose-driven culture for a long time and are suddenly asked (quietly or out loud) to switch.
Hey @ryanthemaker
just wondering why you use a fake image in your profile...
I like the last line, “The key is to avoid letting sense of urgency become a goal in itself.”
Reminds me that what is measurable is not always meaningful in technology. There is a slippery slope when KPIs become end goals. Facebook’s end goal of bringing the world closer together was at one point simplified to growing its ever more connected user base. At one point Facebook believed that anything that allowed them to connect more people was de facto good.

nice
The proprietors of this business are interested in learning what pleases and displeases their clients. They appreciate client comments and will make use of them to enhance their goods and services. You should therefore answer honestly

„ A sense of purpose is a deep understanding of the reasons behind our efforts and a desire to pour in time and energy because that purpose resonates with the impact we’d like to make on the world.“
Love that!
Im currently building a Community for life lessons and really love that definition of purpose from you @ryanthemaker!
Would you mind posting it on www.lifeadvice.app ? I think more people should hear this wording!:)
