Working for yourself can have a lot of benefits, but I can imagine it being tough to hold yourself to your goals and tasks at times.
What are your tips for staying motivated and focused on your tasks and goals, as a solo maker?
Break your long-term goals into small, manageable tasks that you can do in a day.
I keep my "big tasks" in Basecamp but when I sit down to work every day I look at them and, when deciding what to tackle, I break it up into smaller chunks.
I then write those on a post-it note. Ticking those tasks off as the day progresses gives you a boost and finishing a day with a fully cleared list leaves you feeling pumped and motivated.
You have to celebrate the smaller victories on this long journey.
Good advice, it always helps to break down tasks, or else there may be this huge project you aren't crossing off your list for weeks, making you feel like you aren't progressing (when in fact, you are getting a lot done!).
I have an accountability partner. We are both in a similar position. We meet regularly and set deadlines.
Sometimes, just knowing that I have to explain why you did not meet a deadline is enough for me to work harder. It is funny how the mind works...
Yes, I agree. Just having someone watch your progress does wonders. Part of the reason why we hire personal trainers, financial advisers, nutritionists, etc.. lol
