Founders juggling multiple ventures: how do you keep context from bleeding together?

I will admit I still have not fully solved this one. Running a software company, a care home, and a cafe means my brain is constantly being asked to switch entire operating contexts, sometimes within the same hour.

What has helped most is not a productivity trick, it is physical and mental separation, different notebooks, different playlists even, small cues that tell my brain which business it is currently allowed to think about. It sounds almost silly, but the ritual matters more than I expected.

Genuinely asking the group here: what actually works for you to keep contexts separate instead of everything turning into one exhausting blur?

Great topic. Context switching is one of the hidden costs of running multiple ventures — the challenge is not only managing tasks, but keeping the right mental model for each product, customer, and priority.

A few things that help are clear project boundaries, separate documentation/workspaces, and regular review rituals to “reload” context before jumping in. Building systems around memory is often more scalable than relying on willpower.

Multiple ventures can work well when each one has its own operating system and metrics, rather than everything competing for attention at the same time. Great discussion!

Separate workspaces helped me too, but the review ritual is the part people skip. I block twenty minutes before switching into a different business just to reread what changed since I was last there, otherwise I carry the wrong context into the wrong conversation and it shows.
