Free and simple alternative to Google Analytics

I loathe GA. from the bottom of my heart. yes, I completely understand the power that is behind it, but as a non-power user GA is just a mess to use. it's clunky to set up, impossible to use quickly without reminding myself by a thousand google searches how to do what I want to do and now, with the coming update, it's even worse.

I need an alternative. However, I am looking for a free one. I'm experimenting with several paid alternatives on my main projects to see which one works best for me, but I, probably like many of you, have a bunch of side websites that aren't bringing in any money but would still like tracked.
