Free business idea: API with national polling place locations

The Google Civic Information API used to provide polling place data. However, they recently announced that they will not be supporting this data for the elections this year (VA, AL, LA, KY).

People rely on this data to create get-out-the-vote applications like websites and mobile apps.

Currently, there is no single national dataset for this information. You would need to consolidate it based on local county datasets, which are spread across county government websites and available as shapefiles.

We've had Geocodio customers ask us for this data, but it's outside of our scope to undertake a project like this. Since there are no viable alternatives for this, there's a vacuum and thus a great opportunity to create a paid service.

Not saying it's an easy undertaking. Demand is highly seasonal, the data must be precise, and counties may update polling places and not release final data until a few weeks before an election.

Throwing it out there in case someone has an interest in election data and wants a new business.
